The only thing about Lambert's Sikeston is, partically on weekends, be prepared to wait in line to get in.
SDC has always made a great past to remember

Junior

That was normal, going back to the early '80's. part of the fun of going is mingling in line with the others waiting to eat, too.

I have to say that I have been to Cracker Barrel so much that whenever I go to one here at home, when leaving, I feel like I am going to walk outside onto the strip, and I am let down that I am at home again! That would be a great "Twilight Zone" moment. A wormhole here in St Louis that immediately leads from A restaurant to Highway 76! I do love me some CB Chicken and Dumplings.

Cracker Barrel is a staple of our visits as well.  My wife and I went to one in Illinois this past Fall on a trip, and I expected to step out the door and be in Branson.  I love the puzzle games and the food is always delicious! :)

Olive Garden on 76 works best if you go in, get it to go, and take it back to eat at your cabin, lodge motel etc. We did this in Dec. and it worked great. Only about 10 min wait, within 15 minutes from leaving we were on Indian Point eating in a warm cozy cabin!

I always try to take time to go to the Blue Bayou Inn and eat at Starvin Marvins.  It has a great buffet.  Try to go for breakfast and dinner at least once when I am in town.  Prices are reasonable and food is good.  I always wait until the buses have left because it's not the largest place in town so it gets full rather fast.  There seafood buffet has it all...its become a tradition for my family.

I've never had a bad experience at Cracker Barrel, but I really don't understand the attraction of eating "home cooking" in a restaurant. I grew up with "home cooking", and while I love it, I'd no more pay $15 for a restaurant version of a "home" meal, than I would order a bologna sandwich.

My wife can whip up chicken-fried steaks to beat anyone's (even my mother's), if that's what we happen to crave.

When we go out to eat, we try to find new and exotic (to us, at least) foods that we then try to duplicate at home.

One of the reasons I love Cracker Barrel is because it reminds me so much of Silver Dollar City, and Branson. I have three of them within a 20 mile radius of my house. However, that is also the reason I love to hate Cracker Barrel. Since I can eat there all the time at home, there is no need to make a special trip there while in Branson.

Places that are must stops for us are Danna's Barbeque, Grand Country Buffet for breakfast, Chester's, Cracker Barrel and Bob Evans.  Now I'm hungry! :)

Danna's BBQ is reeeeaaaal good. We went there for the first time last year. I can't stress how good the Farmhouse restaurant is. They have great chicken fried steak.

I am a good BBQ fan. I am tentative to try new places because I would rather have the same old thing that I know is good rather that spend good money on a half rack of ribs that isn't good at all.

BBQ debate time, I know this is a regional question but which do you prefer?
Ribs: Wet or Dry?

I ask because this will help my decision making on where to eat ribs next time!

I must say I really dont care to eat at the chains when on vacation.  The point of vacation is doing something you cant to at home.....including eating at the chain restaurants.  The food at most places in Branson seems average at best.  I must admit I do enjoy Starvin Marvins though.

^^Wet!!! I love Famous Dave's ribs at the Landing. So good!

Rube-That's been my life long debate!  My take on it is this....if the place has a good sauce, then I'll sauce it up.  I really like a dry rib if they have a good rub and smoke and prefer it that way personally.  But like I said, if they have a GOOD sauce, then I'll drench it.  Head Country is made here in Oklahoma and I'll almost put that stuff on Ice Cream!  It's simply that good.  If I hit a new BBQ joint, I'll ask them how they make their ribs and if they are proud of their "secret" home made rub, then it's dry no doubt, if they brag about their sauce, I'll try it on a cracker to make my own judgement.  Bottom line is...you can't go wrong with good BBQ!

Well  I do know this Shorty Smalls is some of the worst BBQ around.
We love to eat breakfast at McFarlands, Silver Dollar City, and some little place down town.

For dinner we always eat at the condo.   We have three chefs in our family and have been in the restaurant business since 1984.   We even pack our own smoker.  Their is nothing better than fresh slow smoked brisket, Tablerock lake, and a cold adult beverage.   Last summer we smoked a whole rib.  It was a little expensive but wow nothing beats smoked prime rib, twice baked potatoes, grilled corn on the cob, and fresh steamed asparagus.

Dockers in Branson also has (or at least HAD last time I was there) a great breakfast buffet, and reasonably priced too!
