General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: 2016 Parking Pass
« on: December 31, 2015, 11:20:43 AM »
Agreed Trams.  We park free as well.  The kids love the tram ride to the gate anyway.  It's part of the experience for them! (I miss the old ones as well!)

I've always laminated mine.  I just get the cheap laminating sheets from Wal-Mart and they are pretty thin.
I've never had a problem getting scanned in.  I even copied my license and placed it on the back of my SP with no worries.  In fact, one of the ticket takers told me it was a good idea.

I thought so as well.  At the end of the video, you can see a van parked behind the Gazebo Stage on Main Street.  Plus the parking lot was empty.

My thoughts exactly Gilligan.  SDC will lose it's identity if they start losing all the classics.  If all they want to offer are roller coasters, then they will effectively cut their audience in half.  If you like roller coasters, that's fine.  My problem is everyone wants to throw out the classics like FM, GM and FITH only to put in another coaster.  SDC has 5 coasters already.  Let's give a little love to the classics that got them to where they are now.  Personally, I think they need to ditch AP and bring back the Jim Owen Float Trip.  In it's glory, that was a pretty cool ride.  Highly themed and just a fun little ride that grandma and grandpa could experience with their grandkids much like FM.  Think about how awesome FITH, FM, GM AND the Float Trip would be if they invested the amount of money it took to put in OR.

Ok...now I'll step off the soap box.

Couldn't agree more shave. Today it seems as though it's more about grabbing that extra buck and very little about "creating memories worth repeating"!

Braved the heat yesterday and visited the city.  Numbers were pretty light (probably since it was hotter than hades outside) and the opening only had 3-4 vets in attendance.  Still had a great time, and still loved the City, however, I noticed several things around the city that upset me some.  First of all, someone really needs to get inside the toll booth at the bridge and clean out the weeds that are growing inside.  That looks bad and a sign of not having much pride.  After catching the Saloon show (which is always great) we made our way to FITH only to find that the outside monologue was not playing.  I really miss the music when walking up to the entrance.  I know we talk about it a lot on here, but somebody is going to have to step up and give FITH a little love.  I'm not talking spending thousands and thousands of dollars either.  You give me one hour and a roll of black plastic and you'll be amazed at the improvement.  It's pretty sad when you see all the "back stage" stuff because of the ratty curtain they have put up.  Plus all the little cracks and holes in the walls that let the light in really take away from the ride.  I'm still upset that they closed Big Jacks Sandwich shop!  (And yes, it's still sits empty)  Had a lumberjack camp lunch at the waterfall and enjoyed the coolness of that area.  It HAD to be at least 15 degrees cooler back there.  Caught the train and really felt bad for Ralphie and Alphie.  It was HOT and I could only imagine having to sit out there and do that skit over and over....still did a great job though.  Checked out the new Fireman's Landing and the kids really seemed to enjoy it.  About mid afternoon, we finally decided to fly the white flag and head back to the Classic Motor Inn.  Asphalt was soft in places and we were amazed that we left foot prints in the road!  Made a stop by the taffy shop and got my supply of taffy along with a small bag of Wildfire.  Call me crazy, but I love that stuff.

Still LOVE the City....somebody just needs to step up and look at details in the park.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: EXPIRED refill mugs

So....what's the word on refills on the old mugs this year?  Headed back to SDC and was wondering if I should even take my old mugs.

I'm fine with updates of the old rides if it prolongs their life. Just losing FITH or FM would be a huge loss for the park. The historical attractions hold a special place in the park. Look at Disneyland, 14 of the original 18 attractions that were there on opening day are still in operation or something crazy like that. That's why Disneyland still feels like the nostalgic gem that it is even though it is overshadowed by WDW in terms of size.

Obviously I know changes need to be made. Things updated and/or made safer. I'd be sad to see GM go as well, even though I think it could be updated quite a bit and improved. I think re-doing the entrance and Hospitality House area is something that really needs to be done. It becomes way too congested. I would hope that a lot of the charm of the area remained though. There's a lot of history right there as well.

I agree.  It is the historical attractions that sets SDC apart.  Sadly, if they lose FM, FITH and GM...they will also lose me.  I'm not much on roller coasters and SDC now has 5.  Tearing down a family ride to put in another coaster will do it in for me.  They REALLY need to concentrate on a theme ride.  I do not count PK as a theme ride.  It's nothing more than a coaster with a tag line.  A theme ride to me is something like the Diving Bell, or the Jim Owen Float Trip.  I would love to see them give the older rides some love.  Think about how cool FITH or FM would be if they invested as much as the cost of a new coaster!
