The only reason I would regret the loss of every "thrill" ride in the city is that it couldn't be made to pay these days.  Otherwise, take me back to pre-'72.  A real thrill ride for me would be a time machine, I guess.

I really didn't want to bring it up in fear that I would just be "complaining again" but while waiting in line for FM, they were playing "Celebration" by Kool and the Gang.  It's strange to me that you have to strain to hear the actual Flooded Mine song, but Kool and the Gang were loud and clear!  The same thing with FITH.  Why can't they turn up the dialogue/music outside the ride so you can hear?  They had it on last week, but you could barely hear it.

I did take a look in the old Big Jacks Sandwich Shop, and they have in fact turned it into an office.  Sad, but true.  I miss my "Big Jack".

On another note, my wife and I were discussing this on the drive home.  Do they (SDC) charge the full price of admission right now since they are only about "half open"?  If I were a first time visitor and paid to get in during this time of year, I would be pissed since most everything is closed right now.  Surely they have a cut price for now.   Anybody know?

We arrived at the City around 12:30 on the 16th.  Had to park in lot 5.  Waited forever for a tram only to have to wait some more getting in.  Bag check is not that bad once you get to the table....but it does slow down the entrance time a bit.  Immediately noticed the new split rail fences all over the place.  Basically walked around and tried to get in some rides.  First time I saw a line to the FM in a long time.  Line extended out to the racks next to the entrance.  I thought we just caught the time right after the train, but the train station was full with a line extending to about Reed Springs!  The train was just coming back into the station, so the FM was just that long.  Since there are only a few shows and shops open....lines are long to all the rides.  We strolled around and took everything in until I had enough of the crowds where it was time to leave.  After all, we were going back the next day....

The next day, we arrived at the City around 9am.  Parked in lot 2 next to the loading area.  Crowd was just as bad.  (I was surprised that we were able to walk straight into the Mill for breakfast)  Caught the Pickers on the porch and they were great as usual.  Lines to the rides were long again.  First time I stood in line for TNT all the way out in the zig-zag area!  PK had a line that began nearly at FITH.  I caught the pickers afternoon show at the shed while the kids stood in line for the rides!  ;-)  Numbers were around 10k on Wednesday, and I never did ask, but was at least 10k yesterday.

Were you talking about the Zingo car bodies?  What ever became of all of that?  It still breaks my heart to drive down 21st and see that big parking lot....I sure miss Bells.  Sad that my kids never got to experience it.

Yep.  A couple of years ago, we were almost snowed in.  I remember we went to see "Six" and it was fine when we walked in, but when the show was over, there as nearly a foot of snow on the roads!  Crazy times.....

I wonder if they'd ever consider putting a coaster on the hill between PowderKeg and Wildfire.  That area seems perfect and hidden enough for another big ride.

I never said things were "bad" at SDC.  I just don't want to see SDC turn into another WOF or SF.  That's all I'm saying.  What is really sad is they failed to maintain FM and now it has gotten to this point where it would be expensive to refurbish.

Coaster-You and I are in agreement.  If they would replace it with something as impressive as it was in it's day then it's all good!

Why the hostility Swoosh?  I'm stating the obvious.  SDC already has 5....count them 5 roller coasters.  Why are you so hell-bent on adding another at the expense of losing a cool, indoor, family ride?

That's good news. If and when it does get replaced, I really hope for a world-class indoor attraction. SDC is really lacking in indoor attractions in my opinion. You've got FITH, FM, shows, and shops. I think we need something else and I have been saying this for years.

Couldn't agree more.  I know many here are wishing for another coaster, but they really need to concentrate on what you stated....a world-class indoor attraction.  Coasters are a dime a dozen.  You can ride one anywhere.  The charm that SDC once had is quickly fading away...and that charm came from the one of a kind rides that were unique to SDC.  From Jim Owen's Float Trip, to Rube's Diving Bell....Fire in the Hole to the Flooded Mine......THOSE were the staples that made me want to come back again and again as a kid.  It's getting hard to make "Memories Worth Repeating" if it becomes a state fair atmosphere in our beloved city.

We went for fright fest back in October and LOVED it.  I had never been and we scored some free tickets so I thought "what the heck?"  I'm glad we went because we had a blast.
