Random Talk / Re: vehicle transport.

I’ve had to pass on a lot of stuff I’d really like to have due to this. Seems about $1.50 or so a loaded mile is average. One of these days I’ll end up doing it I’m sure, a couple grand doesn’t buy a lot of rust repair and there is a awful lot of solid stuff out west. :)

As I understand it, the roof was "released".  Maybe that's why it appears to be split.

I suspect the roof was split open to recover the victims.

Certainly a lot of tragedy there but also a lot of false reports. We had heard this morning that Uber Gatlinburg, Smokies aquarium and several other places were destroyed. That is not the case. Uber Gatlinburg posted on their facebook page they were fine and hosting fire fighters. Prayers for all in the area I know a lot of lives have been affected and possibly some lost. Sounds like rain is supposed to be coming tonight, will keep praying.

Announcements / Re: Site Updates

Just found the new site. Got error message when I used my existing bookmark. Good to see things are up and running!

My existing bookmark worked just fine, although mine is a direct link to the forums not the site home page.

Awesome. Thanks for that, I thought I had the right spot but wasn't positive.

Last time I tried, it was still up but that's been longer than I though apparently. 50.silverdollarcity.com was the 50th anniversary web site. It is no longer up, but you can still find it through the Internet Archvie

Here is the link directly to the theme songs page:

Really good sleuthing, thelarsonsix!

I might have to throw together something on this for the front page on throwback Thursday.

Thank you. Please do, I think that is a great idea. I had no idea The Outpost existed until I acquired the old brochure that mentioned it.

I think my parents have some old 1970's park brochures that have the picture of it on them. Finding them though would be difficult. They keep everything. I remember stopping there before. From what I remember it was pretty much just a gas station with a little craft demo area. Lots of Branson literature designed to point you to SDC. Nothing spectacular.

The brochure I have that is linked to in post #2 has a sketch of it, but I would love to see a real picture, something better that the blurry black and white from the newspaper article.

Agreed! Awesome work!

How did you find the newspaper articles? Online?

Yes. I googled silver dollar city outpost leasburg,mo or some such and found several hits from newspapers.com, but you had to have a paid subscription to actually view the articles. You could however see what paper and what the date was in the preview, so from there I googled that paper and those dates and got a hit from the Missouri state historical society site that has scans of those newspapers for free.

Onodaga Cave is the Leasburg/Hwy H exit. This is the SE corner of Hwy H and Old Rte 66. I 44 would be behind you in this picture, and you would be looking SE, towards Leasburg:

This is across Hwy H, SW corner of US 66 and Rte H, looking NW. I 44 would be in the foreground in this picture. To me, that sure looks like the frame of and old Texaco sign near the driveway:

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Founder's Weekend

A bit late to post but here is my Founders Weekend trip. FWIW My father worked at the park from '68-'70 and personally knew the Hershends. It was great to meet with Jack, Sherry, JoDee and Pete and chatting with them.

The Founders Weekend Arm Band

Strolling the deserted park prior to opening with my father. The added benefit of the arm band.

At the lunch tent.

The 76 engine was running great!

Parade

And believe it or not, (maybe it was because it was founders weekend) but the random street performance skits were brought back.
Haven't seen this done in a very long time with my visits to the park.

I also spent some time chatting with Bruce Hershend, Molly (SDC Facebook Page Admin) and the lead marketing director of the park. (Greg was his name, I think) While discussion about the parks future got brought up, the SDC fans site was also mentioned (enthusiastically, may I say) and while this may not be news to some, they admitted that they have been paying attention to some of the discussions that go on here. So it could very well be possible that now or in the future some of the ideas and speculation brought out here will one day make it into reality if it is deemed "marketable" which is the key word they wanted to emphasize. They also seemed amused and quite dismissive about the notion that long standing attractions that many consider as "Staples" will be going anywhere anytime soon. They still seem to deeply care about the heritage of the park's themes and existing attractions and its overall history and have no intent on straying from that. This was very welcoming to hear IMO. They also seemed to be very grateful to the people on this site who have maintained such a deep concern and involvement with the parks growth as enthusiasts.

That is very encouraging to hear.

There is a Mobil station now at I-44 and hwy H, I wonder if that is where it was? The matchbook says a Texaco station attached, and I wouldn't think there would have been that many stations at Leasburg.

I suppose if I was assured I would get the emails (unlike the hit and miss randomness of the Times) I would be ok with that.

We were there this first week in June and saw all three the same day.
