Construction/Rumors / Festival survey
« on: February 29, 2024, 10:14:13 PM »
Got a survey today with 2 festival options they are looking at to replace street fest.
Most of the questions I got focused on the flower and food fest, then they showed the great America exhibition and asked which one I preferred.

I’m a huge fan of street fest so it going away is rough. I was hoping with it going away they’d bring back world fest. Out of these two I’d prefer the flower and food, but I’d really like something more like street fest or world fest.

Do you think the park will tear down the FITH building this spring or leave it standing for the 2024 season?

I’m not sure. They usually seem to have a leave it till they need to remove it approach, but it feels like it would be good for them to get it down in the offseason to help shift the focus to the new fith. It also probably depends on the timeline for what will go there. If they want whatever they are putting in that space to open in 2025 then it would seem like they do some or all of the demo this offseason.

My guess is the building stays up and gets demolished in Jan-March of 2025 and we see something new in that area in 2026. That said, I wouldn’t be shocked if it is gone before then.

It feels likely. They have really been trying to reduce congestion and improve flow through the park the last few years and the line for the train makes that whole area congested.  I don't want to see Flood Mine go, but I think it really is time for it. I hope that it will get a similar treatment to Fire in the Hole and get remade with something very similar to the original but with a few updates for reliability and ease of use.

SDC posted this comment on Facebook yesterday about connecting the path from the opera house to Wilson's farm. I know they said maybe but it sure makes me think that is the plan.

Branson Talk / Re: 2nd Chick-Fil-A open
« on: December 28, 2023, 02:03:25 PM »
I honestly do not get the whole Chick Fil A deal.  I have eaten there a few times and it is OK but not something I would flock to like it seems people do.

Haha.."flock to"...

I'm not a big fan of their food, but I don't hate it either. It's fairly expensive - but I've never had a bad experience there, the drive thru (even with long lines) moves fast and efficient. So, I think most people are there because of that? My preference on fast food chicken is KFC or Popeye's because I can get potatoes and gravy...I love dipping my chicken into gravy...my kids however hate Popeye's so I have to eat that alone.

I live in a city with CFA right across from Popeyes, I like Popeyes food better but with 3-4 cars in the Popeyes drive through it takes 45+ minutes to get through. at chickfila I think our location usually does 80+ vehicles in that same 45 minutes. So count me in the it's the service/speed not the food group. the KFC's in my city seem to be just clean enough to not be shutdown for health code violations.

not many trip reports from the holiday season -- has the sparkle left the world best holiday display?
or is it the economy, bidens fault? trumps fault?  just seems strange -no highway horror stories or glowing reports...

any Ideas?

my two cents...

Kevin

Went last Sunday, it was busy. Very busy. Saw Santa, the parade, and lights.
I really wish they would add a little more to the parade.
Decided to pay for parking when we saw how busy they were so we could walk to our car easily when we left.(when we left we felt very validated for making that choice)
Santa was fantastic as always..

The bells were a nice addition but it felt like a missed opportunity that they weren’t moving.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Bus/Tram/Parking/Accesability
« on: December 14, 2023, 11:27:07 AM »
I’ve found myself wondering if tied to the parking renovations the park is doing, if they will at the end of it make any changes to the trams/buses. It seems like they have added a lot of handicap parking spots in the lots they have redone(maybe it’s the same amount but it feels like they added more). The trams and buses aren’t very easy for many handicapped people to get on. So I’ve been wondering if they would be making any changes to the trams to be more handicap accessible. It seems like a ramp and a strap system for wheelchairs would be an easy thing to add to the trams. And maybe a portable or retractable step to help people that can’t step up as easily onto the tram.

I also wish they would only use the trams and would not use buses. I think they could add some type of wind/rain screen that’s removable to the trams.

I’m curious to hear other thoughts on this.

Gyser Gulch should come back at the resort.

Does anyone know if the original FITH will be demolished before park opening in 2024?

I don’t know, but I would expect that to happen in the off season.

I wish this was ranked choice voting, there are several I’d really like to see a modern take on….

I’m not convinced it will get past anti trust regulations. It might but it’s combining #1 and #2 in terms of number of properties. Many states that had 2 park companies will only have 1(or like Missouri will go from 3 companies to 2)…. That’s the type of consolidation that usually gets deals reversed by the feds.

Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC Resort Survey
« on: October 09, 2023, 07:36:41 PM »
Hopefully they have some cabin options - when we go to SDC we usually have a group of 8 or more, so hotel/resort rooms tend to be a bit expensive when you rent out three of them.

Jay

I would hope they are like great wolf lodge and have lots of rooms that sleep 5-8 people and maybe even some that go up to 10.

Something style wise that embraces craftsmanship, particularly using SDC crafts people to make some signature elements in the design would be awesome.

I'm very curious about the design options they presented.

I did not get one, I did a guest survey in early September but it was just a general how was your visit survey.

Went Sunday sept 10th. A decent number of people but not too busy at all, guessing about 9k-11k

3 thoughts from this trip:
SDC should really remove a row of seats on the bus at the front for a stroller storage area, with a safety strap that keeps strollers in that area. (It would be nice if the trams has a section too but it’s a lot easier to take a stroller on the tram and sit with it in your row)

The flooded mine has had a rough summer, many effects were not working. I was last on it in early July and most of the ride was working then. Hopefully they can get some fixed the next few weeks.

Sometime in the last couple of months the ozark marketplace was re-arranged making it more of a maze where you have to navigate around displays to get out. It’s no longer two nice clear paths to walk through if you don’t want to shop.

I want both. I want a flooded mine dark ride with no guns, maybe slightly expanded and a remastered audio track…
I also want a separate shooting ride. I think a trackless “stagecoach” ride through the hills/woods in a sherif training course would be fantastic use a modern gun system that works and shoot targets.

Moving the pretzel stand is interesting. Does that mean that building is going to be removed soon for something new down there?

The fire district: will boatworks theater be part of the fire district and/or pumpkin plaza?

I’m a little disappointed they didn’t announce construction starting soon on the resort, but it sounded like Brad mentioned more announcements coming for 2024….. all though that might just be the worlds largest can of Spinich or something equally not exciting.
