Looks like we'll be there next Sunday and Monday.  My parents invited us to go boating on Table Rock.  We decided to add a couple of days.  Why not, right?

Pray for me!  Burned my right eye yesterday morning by putting in a contact that had been soaked in hydrogen peroxide...loooong story.  Ended up at the Branson ER last night.  Still hurts this morning and I can't wear my contacts for two weeks but I'm goin' to the City anyway!

I don't know if this is the right place to post this or not. Sorry as I'm a newbie. Anyway, we just got back home from our annual 3 week trip to Branson and Silver Dollar City. As usual, we had the times of our lives. With 4 boys, season passes to the city are the only way to go. They love the rides and the various shows throughout the park, especially the Saloon Show. I just have to mention one concern however. Even though there are designated smoking areas, I see a number of people smoking outside those areas. I saw one gentleman get very nasty with a park employee when she directed him to a smoking area. My question is, would it be possible to make the whole park a non-smoking area. It seems like the area around the Powder Keg is very bad as far as smelling cigarette smoke. On a couple of different occasions both my family and myself were made sick from the smell of the smoke. Surely it would be possible to do without a cigarette during a visit to the park. Not trying to say anything bad about anybody who smokes, but a non-smoking park I think would even make it more family oriented. I'd be interested in hearing some of your thoughts on this and if you think it is something that could/would ever happen. Also, if you had a contact person from the park that I could contact about this issue I'd appreciate it.
Finally, I have to say thanks to all of you for making this an enjoyable website for me. I have learned much about SDC since discovering it.

Did thy right eye offend thee?  ;D

Get well soon! Eye injuries are a hassle.

PastorDon

Thanks for your prayers everybody!  My eye started feeling better within an hour or so of getting to SDC...so I credit your prayers and the Lord who answers prayers.

First let me say the heat and humidity down here were absolutely oppressive.  We've had a long winter and a cool spring where we come from so it was really hard on us.  (We're hoping it will moderate a bit by the end of the week.) But we had a great time anyway.  Walked right onto Wildfire at about 9:30 and rode it 3 times in a row.  Then it was off to American plunge where I sat in the back behind 5 other people in our group and got absolutely soaked.  After that we rode Powderkeg, TNT, FITH, and TGFMS.  Didn't catch any shows, but had a great lunch at the Mine Restaurant where it was gloriously COOOOOOOOOL!  We finally just couldn't take the heat and humidity any longer and headed back to our resort on Indian Point at about 3:30 where I took about a 2 hour nap, and now my eye is feeling much better!  Tomorrow is our day on the lake so I should be able to report more on SDC on Wednesday.
Overall I was impressed with how great everything looks.  The park did not seem to be too crowded and the lines were not too long except for the water rides!  I have never seen lines that long for Lost River of the Ozarks.
By the way, my wife did a cooking class at the Culinary & Craft School and said she really enjoyed it...(gave it a 9 out of 10)  She's also planning to go back to a "tropical" themed one on Thursday.
Thanks again everyone!  Until next time...

No Giant Swing?  If you can do the others, don't let the swing intimidate you!  I consider it one of the best rides there, with repeated weightlessness - plus, if you look over your head on the forward swing, you get a great view of the opposite horizon (upside down).

^It's not that I have anything against GS but just didn't make it over there today.  However, I will admit it has the ability to "weird me out" more than any other ride in the park.  I rode it once last time we were there in '07 and that whole "nothing-between-me-and-the-ground-except-this-padded-pipe" thing kind of messed with my head.  But I'll probably ride it on Wednesday!  Thanks for the nudge, HB!

I love the GS!!!!!! It makes me feel so weightless and it's a lot of fun. I could just sit and ride it all day! :o

Just like to say that I've attended Echo Hollow twice and saw the Saloon Show once this week, and both are excellent!  I was really disappointed with the Saloon Show last time I saw it in '07, but they have really tightened up the jokes and songs, and it's great!  Really like all the current cultural references and the choice of songs.  Jae McFerron is absolutely superb as the host of EH, and his comedy bits are fresh and funny.

One addition to my comments on the Echo Hollow Show...I think they could stand to make up a few more cards with different words for their "How To Talk Like a Hillbilly" section.  There are lot's of words that could be used (Although they probably should stay away from "European"!  ;) ) And it would add a little variety for those of us who might want to see the show more than once in a season.
