I was wondering where that was- cool scene.  I'm glad they took the "ghosts" out of the tower- scared my son.  The prisoners trying to escape through the tower is a better scene than the "ghosts".

I actually kind of like the fact that they turned it into a shooting gallery.  To each his/her own I guess.  I do miss the fake rocks falling at you from the tower.  I think they took that out in the early 80s.

It's interesting that in the photo montage they stuck a picture of Ed Harris as City Marshall Virgil Cole from the movie "Appaloosa"...

Speaking of Dogpatch, here's a story our local news did on it tonight:

Sad but interesting.

Hi, I've been on this site about a month and done a few posts.  I took my alias Duelist from the style of Cowboy Action Shooting I do.  The Duelist category fires the six-shooters one handed.  I live 20 miles southwest of Little Rock and have been going to SDC since 1969 so I got to do a lot of the early things like ride the stagecoach, Jim Owen's Float Trip and Herman the Hermit's treehouse.  I'm a big Old West Fanatic and SDC definitely helped keep my interest in that over the years.  I, my wife and 2 kids are all season pass holders.  My wife and I have had season passes since 1990.  I found this site by Googling "new ride at Silver Dollar City".  And I second Paul Harvey when he said "May there ever be a Silver Dollar City"!

We used to ask to be seated upstairs, but if you're the only ones up there, they sometimes forget to bring you extra coffee/drinks.  If it's busy and the upstairs is open they're more than happy to have volunteers eat upstairs because a lot of customers won't go up there because of the stairs you have to climb and they have bad knees, backs, whatever.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Quirky things to do at SDC
« on: May 09, 2010, 06:09:05 PM »
One of the fun things we like to do at the City is hang out near the train depot and watch people "jump" when the train blows it's whistle as it's departing the depot.  I've seen peole spill drinks, scream, jump 5 feet in the air, etc.   But they always end up laughing about it afterward. Especially fun when it's a group of teenage girls.  They "scare" real good. It's like watching the scarecrow "come to life" outside of the Hospitality House during the Fall festival.  Anyone else have anything unusual they would like to share?

If she's there we always get Ms. Debbie as our waitress.  I don't know her last name but she's tall, pretty and very nice.  Always pleasant and always gets our day off to a great start!

The robbery is one of my six-year old daughter's favorite things on the park.  I agree that Gunner and T-Bone were 2 of the best.  I remember Gunner as the conductor with a funny line as we passed The Giant Swing: "And there's The Giant Swing, part of Wilson's Farm.  You know who Wilson's Farm was named for?  It was Bob Farm, a local farmer".  Hilarious!

Also, when my daughter was 2, we were at Spring Family Break Days and the temperature was in the low 40s.  She had on some kind of Nordic looking outfit with a hood with tassels on either side of it.  Gunner, as one of the Bolin boys during the robbery, said "Look- a baby Baldknobber".

SDC Memories/ Park History / Re: Remember the Boxing Show?
« on: May 07, 2010, 06:39:37 PM »
I remember the Boxing Show from 1978.  I think they had it in the Carosel Barn.  It was very funny and was supposed to be a boxing match but turned into more of a "pro" wrestling match.  The "Courthouse" show from the early 80s was also very funny.  It was performed at the old Courthouse which is now the Riverfront Playhouse.  The Judge was played by a very talented actor from the 70s and 80s at SDC named Wayne Milnes (I had forgotten his name but looked it up in my "Shad" book).  He also was involved in the Hatfield and McCoy feuds and played "Zenus" in the Toby show at the Corncrib Theatre on Hwy 76.  I miss him and wonder what happened to him.

Since we're on the subject of shows I have been e-mailing SDC trying to get the original Charlie/Tillie show back at the Saloon.  I must have seen it between 30 - 40 times and laughed every time.  Classic!

We rode Fire in the Hole the opening weekend in March and were thrilled to see all the new "scenes".  I talked to one of the guys working the ride, a younger looking guy with short hair and glasses, who told me it was part of a 5-year plan to revitalize FITH including bringing the collapsing bridge back.  I've been riding FITH since 1974 and it's still my favorite ride at the park followed closely by Thunderation.
