General Silver Dollar City Talk / SDC Logo
June 12, 2023, 05:45:02 PM
I just noticed on the SDC webpage that the logo in the upper left hand corner (the iconic axe and log) has SILVER DOLLAR CITY OZARK MTNS instead of Branson Missouri or just Missouri.  Has this already been discussed and I missed it?  Does anyone know why they changed it to OZARK MTNS?  Just curious.

Just curious- how many of you gone to Silver Dollar City by yourself?  I only did it once.   I went to the Western Writers of America Convention is Springfield MO in June of 2007.  The last day of the Convention was Saturday so on the way back home to central Arkansas I stopped and went to SDC on Sunday on my own.  The positive side was that I could do what I wanted on my own schedule.  The negative was when I went to eat at the Wagon Wheel I got up to get some water during my meal and when I got back they had bussed my table LOL.  I had to tell the cashier what happened and got another burger and fries.  Anyone else have any interesting stories when you visited by yourselves?

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Future Festivals
December 20, 2021, 03:12:06 PM
As usual, after our visit to SDC last Friday, we got an SDC Guest Experience Survey in our email.  Among various questions about OTC they ask for which festivals you would like to see at SDC- not current festivals but festival ideas.  They have 5 lines for 5 different festival ideas.  Anyone have an idea for a festival you would like to see that I can list in the survey?  Thanks for your help.

We got a survey emailed to us a few months ago regarding the SDC app.  They asked if we had downloaded and used the app (we have) and asked various questions on which functions we had used on the app and what we would like to see added to the app.  I responded that I would like the street show times added to the Show Schedules on the app (they haven't added them yet).  Just curious what would you like to see added/changed on the app?  Also, does anyone know how they determine the Ride Wait Times?  I know they're not exact and only in 5 minute increments and I would think they would round down- ie 44 minute wait time would be rounded down to 40 instead of up to 45.  Do they have marked spots in the queue line to guess how long the wait is from that point?  Just wondering.

Since, as Swoosh pointed out, the board has been quiet I thought I'd ask the question if you could bring back one show at SDC (or create a new one) what would it be?  I would have to go with bringing back the Melvin the Chicken Thief show since I remember all the laughs in that one.  Kind of politically incorrect but certainly not offensive.  What would you bring back (or create)?

I saw this article on the Internet yesterday about things that you will probably never see again at theme parks: https://www.msn.com/en-us/travel/news/7-things-youll-never-see-in-theme-parks-ever-again/ss-BB14tsTF

One thing that caught my eye was no more food buffets.  That sounds right and being as how one of our favorite places to eat in the City is the breakfast buffet at the Mill (with our favorite waitress Ms. Debbie) so I was wondering how they could still provide this service.  Our thoughts were putting up a shield with slots between the front side and the kitchen side of the buffet with the servers filling your plate with what you requested.  Any other ideas how they could accomplish this?

Okay, after a lot of soul-searching I have to ask the question: What would SDC have to do to make you feel comfortable enough to go back?  Our first planned trip of the year is for the 16th - 17th of this month for Bluegrass and BBQ.  I asked my wife (i really don't see it happening) but what if that was the weekend they decided to open for the season.  Would we go then?  What would have to happen for us to feel comfortable enough to go?  Make it mandatory that everyone wear a mask of some kind?  Do a temperature check for everyone going into the park?  Limit the number of people in the park?  What would they need to do?

Since this is in general a slow time of year conversation wise I thought I'd start a what if topic: If you could bring one thing back from SDC's past that they don't have anymore what would it be?  I would have to go with the book store.  They had books from locals and other books about subjects I wouldn't have thought of browsing for on Amazon.  I had mentioned this to them in an email and they said they just couldn't compete with places like Amazon and the store wasn't turning a profit anymore.  I know I bought something from them almost every trip but I can't keep the store open by myself.  So, what would you like to see brought back?

SDC Memories/ Park History / Wayne Milnes
June 10, 2019, 07:47:26 PM
I was very sad to hear of the passing of Wayne Milnes.  He helped create many of my "memories worth repeating" during his time at SDC and performing at Corn Crib theater.  He was hilarious as the Judge in the Melvin the Chicken Thief show at the Courthouse (now Riverfront) Playhouse and as a contestant in the Boxing Show.  RIP Wayne- you will be missed.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Corporation Days
September 18, 2016, 01:26:41 PM
Our next trip to the City will be October 15th - 16th.  Does anyone know if there is a Corporation Day planned for those dates? ie Cox Health Day, etc.  Thanks

Random Talk / Students at U of A
May 30, 2014, 05:38:27 PM
Just spent the last 2 days with my son at freshman orientation at the university of Arkansas at Fayetteville.  Curious if anyone on the site has children at the university or are you a student there?

Just curious, say you're at the City in the summer and a thundershower pops up where would you go to wait it out?  I used to always go to the bookstore to browse but since they closed that I'm looking for somewhere else.  Of course a show would probably be the best thing but that's not always possible for a pop-up shower.

Random Talk / Government Shutdown
October 03, 2013, 07:29:05 AM
Anyone else get furloughed by the Federal Government shutdown?  I work for a state agency but since my job is mostly federally funded I'm out of a job until the shutdown is over.  They got about 80 out of around 100 of us at my office.  Hopefully this will be over soon.
