General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: 2011 Trip Reviews
« on: June 23, 2011, 02:49:37 PM »
We had a great time in Branson June4-17. We spent every day at SDC. Most of the time we spent at the Homestead listening  and visiting with the Pickers, Aunt Judy, Jack and John. We always bring a good supply of Wisconsin Cheese to the Homestead. I did catch Cedric and the Cajun Connection and they were good as always. Saw Nik Wallenda hang from the helicopter from the road to the city as we had to go to our motel (Eagles Lodge/Homestay Inn) to get our big cooler to transport pies from SDC to a benefit at the Hillbilly Bowl in Kimberling City for Charlie Bowden (who used to work inSDC). They had all traffic stopped while the copters were in the air.We didn't go an any rides, just lazed around and drank a lot of ice water. When we left home we had frost, so it was a shock to our systems to be in hot and humid weather. Can't wait to get back down to Branson in Sept.

Called Paige yesterday to book our room for June 3-17. Paige was very nice and helpful, can't wait to get down where it's warmer and not freezing at night.

As soon as the turnstiles open we goto the Bakery and Hubby gets his large coffee fix and I get an iced tea. We then head over to the Homestead , sit  on a rocker and talk to Danny and any other Picker before the Pickers first set. Most of the time we stay around the cabin. I am getting some guitar pointers from Greg and Steve...as I am a beginner, hopefully not too old at 60 to learn to play and reade music.

Got the survey too. I usually drink one iced tea then free ice water, but would drink Diet Pepsi if it were available.

Random Talk / Re: Sleeping troubles & wake-up time

Unfortunately we get up at 4:15 AM on weekdays (usually wake up earlier) and still wake up at that time on weekends and when we are on vacation.....it's hard to break a 40 year habit....maybe when we retire  it will change.

We usually stop out at the farm to see Mike & Nancee Micham  every time we visit Branson....they are wasting their talent farming and only performing sporadically. Their web site is: frontdoorfarms.com....if anyone is interested...they have their CD available through the web site. Dwight is playing  off and on with family(sisters and brother) he had a lot of problems with repeated allergies when in SDC....he has a singleCD out "Stand for the Flag" available through the Homestead Pickers web site. It is good! Steve Bush is a great addition to the Pickers...he doesn't sing a lot,but is a good musician and also plays in the Paul Harris Show on the strip.

We were in SDC  18-21. Had a great time, but THE TREE was TOOOO LOUD! It hurt my ears while I was sitting in the cabin with the doors shut. I can only imagine what the little kids ears felt like. It was great to say hello to the workers we knew from our former visits.

The Lumberjack Show ought to be great if it is at all like the ones they have here in Northern WI. This area around my town used to be full of logging camps and we are glad the traditions are kept alive. It's too bad that the good hardwood trees weren't replanted.

Our favorite place is the HOMESTEAD. Keather is a great cook for someone as young as she is. If the Homestead Pickers, Terry Sanders, Frisco Jack (and John) and Aunt Judy and the street Characters weren't there...it would only be just another amusement park and we wouldn't drive 900 miles to go there.
