General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: New Year's Eve
« on: Today at 10:00:31 AM »
Sand, I thought something was mentioned last year about New Years Eve at the City. I know I heard it somewhere, because Hubs and I were looking forward to it.

I could not get any other details either,,

I did tell them IF that was true....SDC better start advertising it.!!

So, while I was in town this weekend, I talked to a couple of people close to the SDC family. I was told they are actually having a NYE party at the city for the public, was told they are going to bring in "The New Year"..??

According to the schedule they are closing at 7 pm on NYE day, and 8pm new years day..

Has anyone here heard anything about extended hours on NYE?

I think the station is the only thing left to watch at this point, so I wouldn't go to much more trouble than getting a couple shots from TNT's queue or the porch.

Still a lot of time left for them to dress the station and surrounding area up. I'm curious to see how much effort they'll put into the exterior. They don't often disappoint, and Fireman's Landing had a lot of great little details so they still know how to do it.

yes lots of time yet,  I am still confident they will theme the building and queue very nicely.. I still expect to see some kind of "structure" inside the building as you walk upstairs.......  maybe a time machine/capsule??

It does look like there will be windows out the back of the building on the queue levels. Still not close to something like WF though.

Yes on the 2nd level of the queue building there are postcard windows that look out towards the first drop

Nice, surprised they didnt put up large plate glass windows.. so you could really see whats going on..

Spellcheck on my phone switched words on me and I didn't catch it.  I meant PICTURE windows

OK.  Well that does make a difference.  LOL...  ((Love that autospell!))

^Can you be more careful when you quote?  You have a bad habit of deleting part of the code

Maybe..?   ???

I will watch that..

But typically I try to only copy and quote the part of the statement I am responding too.

Yup, all that gorgeous cedar covered up.  *sadness*

The cedar did look great and I though would match the area nicely...

Do you suppose the Greenish paint is supposed to match the trees and growth to blend in?

I still expect to see lots of theming at least on the west side of building, and the interior..

So I'll be the first to say it.  I hate the color of the station.  I hope that's not the finished product.

I guess I expected more of a brown/earthtone color for some reason..... BUT lots of time left ofr additional changes.......

LOL, maybe the greenish color is the primer coat ::)

Um... if they're driving anywhere near SDC they were already going to SDC.  No one just happens to drive that way and then magically decides to go to SDC spur of the moment.

Again SDC is NOT SIXFLAGS.  Stop trying to make it be.

I agree the majority of the people going to Branson and  the SDC area are going there and know what SDC is..  BUT there are several people out there ( :o :o ::) ::)) that dont know what SDC is or what it represents to us..

Big coasters on the skyline from the hiway or from the lake? yes, it will draw in extra people... those extra people spend extra money, that is additional revenue. Additional revenue NOW, and of course once they visit, additional revenue in the future...

AND NO we dont want to be like 6 flags.....   JUST SAY NO!

Seeing the big rides from the road/hiway is basic marketing 101... "impulse buying"

People drive by,
kids or adults see the coasters, "that looks cool, lets check it out".!
THey go in check out the park and rides, SDC generates 3-500 bucks or more per family...

Thats impulse buying...  You have to properly market your product, to sell your product ;D

Carr Excavating shared more photos today.  I got to admit, the retaining walls really class up the look of this ride

http://www.midwestinfoguide.com/2017/09/time-traveler-construction-sdc_13.html

Two Thoughts

Hope they put caps on them.

Hope they use a concrete stain to knock the gray out and blend it better with the natural landscape.

There wont be any caps on that style of block....

They wont stain them, They would have used a different product if they had wanted to "match" the "natural" landscape.

The fitted wall with all the blocks a uniform size will look great when complete.
