Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC's 2018 Project(s) and Park Developments

You have to remember that nothing like this has ever been done before so the person who created the preview video had to go off past knowledge.

Will Midtown also have a music/light show?  Isn't that how it was displayed at Disney?
I think there will be something maybe in between the big show with the tree ( needs updating).
Last time I was there they had good sized speakers all over mid town already installed ready to go so.  Now I wonder how this will be used to make money or will it just be another attraction.

Marketing.  They have a HUGE campaign coming down the pipes.  Expect a flood of commercials.

Thanks all for posting updates. I personally have mixed feelings about this.
1. I thought I would be okay with the spinning, until i watched the pov video. Amyone saying it isnt a lot of spinning is fooling themselves. (10,000 is still a lot, even if it isnt 20,000.) I think i will be ok, but I totally agree with those concerned and dont blame anyone for being bummed they wont be able to ride. Going backward can be fun at times, though.
2. I am totaly unimpressed with this theme. I have no idea why steampunk is so big but it is repulsive to me. This theme is not 1880s Ozarks, late 1880s Chicago or new york maybe. As swoosh said everyone is entitled to their own opinion and if people like this theme im happy for them, but I do not feel like it is anything like SDC. Being set in history alone doesnt make it SDC. It is not appealing or enduring. Just throw a bunch of clocks together. Wildfire is steampunk enough for me...ugh.
3. Combine 2 with what others fear is a lack of themeing leads me to believe the PTB just dont care or dont get it. Seems haphazardly thrown together and unimpressive. I will wait for my final analysis on #3 until I see it, but I will never like time traveler as a concept or this steampunk route. Just like grand exposition,  not for me.

Because of the above I really dont think I will care much for this ride or become attached to it. I will spend most of my riding time on FITH, Flooded Mine, Thunderation, Powderkeg, Lost River, the Train, and OR to a lesser extent while wondering why they wont fix up or redo AP or fix up FItH or make Thunderation smoother.
I will spend more time in the shops or saloon show, grandfathers mansion or a theatre. If this ride takes up some crowd then great. If it makes the SP price go up ill probably scale back to one visit a year, if the route they wanna go is away from die hard loyalists like me and toward coaster chasers with no soul invovled that is entirely up to them and my visists will reflect that. (Not saying its what they are doing for sure, just speaking generally and in 'what ifs').
I will ride it next year and give it a chance, but aint gettin my hopes up. Im more excited that they fixed up FM.

1. Brad really hit the point of it being a controlled spinning Hard yesterday.  He even went as far as saying that the magnets would clamp hard if the sensors detect the carts spinning too much.  He personally thought the test car on Collossus was too much and that's why Mack developed this particular set up.

2. Believe it or not, the theme is NOT steampunk.  The character is actually a clock connoisseur and has stumbled on a way to bend time.  I guess years of studying and measuring time came to this break through.  So basically he's a clock maker and historian.

3.  The station is going to be very impressive.  BUT I'll let the park reveal those details as they're the ones paying for it - not my place.

If history repeats itself, they'll be getting a Mack Coaster soon, 2019?

Do you think the park will really want to put in another Launched coaster with all of the issues they've had with Lightning Rod?  The GP is not that smart.  How do you explain to them that a new Launched coaster won't have issues too?

Has everyone seen the 360 video?  You might want to go over this one with a fine-toothed comb.

Yep we saw it with VR headsets at the media event.  It was pretty cool.

Looking forward to seeing Midtown this year.. The lights and New Facades will be great along with the new displays.
I did find it humorous the way Brad described the new Christmas Tree on Midtown...
"90 feet tall from the top of the tree to the street"...
Of course "we" know the tree will be sitting on the platform where the old treehouse was which is probably 30 - 40  feet off the street already... ;D

He said it would be on a platform about 30 feet in the air and then went on to say that it would be 90 feet from the star to the street.  FTR - the platform will be decorated as a large gift so technically it would count as part of the tree

To all of those whining about the spinning, get over it. SDC has given us an amazing attraction. Such a great day.

Tyler, they have just as much of a right to formulate their own opinions as you do, to formulate their own.  Spinning is not for everyone.  My group even had qualms about that feature.

Y'all shouldn't have posted those pics (particularly on this site) even with the gate open. The park has been saving that. Even the drop perspective out of the station. That's equivalent to posting pics of OR's barrel rolls on here a few days before the official announcement even though they were out there.

I appreciate the sentiment, but if it's visible from within the park or the road, people are going to see it. If they see it, they are going to take pictures and share them. The theme park paparazzi goes way back to even before the internet. It's just part of all the excitement leading up to the announcement.

My rule is that as long as there is no trespassing or rule breaking then go ahead - everyone's going to see it anyway. I don't want anything "leaked", but in this case everyone who has been to the park for the last month has seen this giant drop. They aren't exactly trying to hide it. OR's barrel rolls were kind of different because they really were trying to hide them, but I think they were too close to the train tracks so people figured it out anyway, aside from all the leaks.

The drop picture must have been taken by a sub contractor. The employees I know are smart enough to keep that stuff to themselves until the announcement has been made, but they've been bringing in all sorts of workers to finish the station. I wouldn't normally allow it, but it was already out and it didn't show much more than what we had already seen.

Noted. They aren't exactly trying to share it out either. But yeah, it would have been fun to see some of that all at once on the big day. But I do realize it's out there and so be it. I'll be there Wednesday as well so see ya there!

Did you also get a media invite or are you just going to be at the park?

FWIW, the photo of the drop from the station was originally a snap on Snap Chat.  The uncropped photo (minus the name) is on MIG.  The telltale sign that it was taken on Snap Chat is the time circle in the upper right corner

Well the railing doesn't match the rest of Boardwalk.  That was kind of a giveaway too.

We were talking and we think that the ramp that empties into the picnic table area might be just temporary for the media event - much like the bridge over the track opening in the station.

Dang it Lorrie - you have to warn me that you are going to post photos.  I was tied up with Drum Corp International Championships today in Indy.  ;)

If you are having trouble viewing the photos on Facebook or embedded above (due to size) you can now view them on MIG as well

Maybe I will warn you next time... I was able to get pics late friday afternoon,  then got computer access at the Motel...  Normall I dont have computer available until i get home...

lol.  I'm just kidding. I got back to my hotel in Indy last night and saw the photos and then went ahead and posted the update. Not a problem - thanks again for sharing

Too bad they cannot come up with funds to build a three or four deck parking garage on the main lot...which in my daze working there it was called "C" lot. It is the area from the bus/tram loading area on the upper lot going toward the Hospitality House. If they remodel the front area at the turnstyles, I hope they keep the waterclock.

So do I, Junior!  I love that clock and the feeling that area conveys with the moving waters, rock, trees, and plants.

I would like them to move the waterclock to the square area.  They could put it over by Reunion Hall.
