General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Food Packages at SDC
« on: December 07, 2018, 08:29:18 AM »
one question from the old guy?  WTH is a "digital wallet"...LOL

It's adding it to your phone. On iPhone it would be adding it to the Wallet app. I really wish that SDC would get with the times and start accepting mobile payments (ApplePay, GooglePay, etc.) This is especially true at WW where someone could just pay with their watch instead of carrying around/go back to seats for cash/cards. They really need to add digital passes too. I have to get mine reprinted a few times a year because the ink wears off.

Got a little off topic there. Basically digital wallet = phone.

Construction/Rumors / Re: Retire the Old Tree ! I said it, discuss....

It's very outdated at this point and there seems to be a lack of lights in general on the square when you enter it after walking through Midtown. The tree also has some sections that aren't working correctly and flash random colors.
The train could use some help too. There is only one light tunnel this year. Some houses have more lights than you go past on the train. I would love to see a fully synchronized display that goes with the music on the train. Obviously not the full ride, but maybe a song or two when you are back in the woods.

It probably isn't that bad. Just seeing it 5-6 times each year over the last 10 years makes it seem worse than it is for most guests.

Sunday, another poor number for the park..  Was the weather that bad down there..  I know it was BAD here,
30-40- mph winds
4 degree wind chill
blowing snow ALL day...

But in Branson?...  anyway only 5400 people.~,

May have been a good day to be there and look it all over...

It was very windy with cold rain/mist/snow all afternoon and evening in Springfield. We arrived to the park around 5:00 and there were actually more cars in the lot than we expected. We were prepared for the cold and our son was prepared for his rides to be closed (which all outside rides except for the train and carousel were closed). It was a great evening to meet Santa, see Rudolph, ride the train and see the parade without any lines/crowds. Most of our pictures don't have a single other person in them. There were maybe 20 people total on the train when we rode it. For us, it was a perfect evening to visit the park.

Noticed that they upped the age for Senior passes to 65 from 62.

On Saturday we got there around 4 and paid parking was full. They actually had us park on the road that is the entrance to the paid parking booths.

Was at the park tonight and noticed that the current Christmas  refill cups are valid through 1/1/20. I donít recall them doing this in the past.

It will be interesting to see how they link the tumbler to a specific pass. The details state that the tumbler is valid for a single pass holder only. When we purchased it, it didn't ask which pass it was being purchased for. Maybe they do that when you redeem the certificate for the actual tumbler next year. I bet that they will scan the pass to verify. I would assume that they will only do this for the more specialty drinks that you have to order and not for fountain drinks.

Ordered our 2019 passes. Noticed that the email includes a barcode that matches individual codes on the bottom of our passes. The 2018 email did not include the barcode. Has there been any rumors of them adding digital passes to the app for 2019.

We bought one. When you consider buying the unlimited refill cup at WW, then two of the discounted refill cups at SDC, we can just buy one of these for less. Rarely do we even use both of our refill cups when at SDC.
We are locals so we go quite often. Not sure how great of a deal it would be for out-of-towners.

Any chance that they move the entrance/station over to the barn swing area?

It's a big hit with the young kids in my family. They did leave an ugly hole that I would love to see filled in with landscaping, but other than that I'd rather they left it alone.

Our son loves the treehouse structure and can spend quite a bit a time there going through it time after time. If anything, an additional treehouse structure with slides could be a good addition. Maybe replace the sand an story area with an additional structure and connect it to the existing one with a bridge over the middle. It's nice to have a place for him to play and spend some energy and not just wait in line for a ride.

It looks like the tree will have a nightly show with fireworks (I'm sure that the fireworks part won't be nightly though).

More info is in the video here:
