General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Harvest Festival
« on: October 14, 2019, 05:18:00 PM »
I think that there is also a lot of misunderstanding the festival times by many people. It's Craft Days and Pumpkin Nights. A lot of reviews that I have seen are disappointed that the craft booths are closed at night. Seems people expect to be able to come for just the evening and see both the crafts and the pumpkins.

We typically just go in the evening so the craft booths are all closed or closing. I didn't think much about our young kids being interested in the crafts, but we went down earlier on Sunday and our 4 year old was actually really interested in some of the crafts and how they were made. Our next trip we may spend more time looking at the crafts and talking to the people that made them.

We're pretty sure the Pumpkin Fest sign was not over the arch by Echo Hollow opening day, either.  It looks nice.

It was there opening day. The only thing that weíve noticed that they have added is more lights along the path between the pizza place and the new bbq rib place. It was way too dark in that area opening night. Noticed the added lighting there that Friday.

That was kind of my thinking too. What are the chances that we see the old tree back there this year? Maybe the area is just open on certain days as simply a way to add more area to the park?

In the middle of the new Pumpkin Plaza area, there is a large circle of concrete in the blacktop. It has metal access box lid looking things evenly spaced around the edge of the circle and a large one in the middle. Anyone know that this is for? I didnít get a good picture of it, but have attached a few that Iíve found.
My initial though was a testing/programming area for the new tree, but not sure when they would have time to use the are due to Pumpkin Nights.

Anybody from here there tonight? how was it?

We were there Wednesday and tonight. Completely different experiences. The place was empty on Wednesday night. The riverfront area was almost creepy because no one else was in that part of the park and some of the lights were out so there were some dark parts of the path. Tonight there were people thought the park and more lights had been added to the darker areas since Wednesday.
The new Pumpkin Plaza was much better tonight with a crowd than on Wednesday. Surprisingly, the Owl Hollow wooded trail wasnít super packed tonight. We were afraid that it would be really hard to see the pumpkins on it with much of a crowd.
The hill from the square to Grand Expo was very crowded all evening. Not Saturday Christmas crowded, but still crowded.
Even with the larger crowd tonight, we still did everything that we wanted to do and had a great time.

Less than 2 weeks until our Disneyland trip...
Can't tell you how excited I am for this one.  Actually going to start posting count down videos for it, we're that excited.

We were there about this time last year. It was my first Disney trip. We are headed back again this year at the beginning of December for Christmas.

I know that our family is waiting until Pumpkin Nights to start until we go back. We already have 3 trips planned. I know of some other families that are holding off on trips until Pumpkin Nights too.

Was there this weekend and rode it in the front row, second row and 5th row. The front row is by far the smoothest. I was surprised how much worse even the second row was.

Was in the park today and had zero wait at all of the kids rides in the morning.

Only issue that we had was a lunch at Wagon Works Grill when the apple slices for my 2 kids meals were about 5 days past their best by date and were slimy. When I took them back to the counter all of the ladies seemed annoyed and tried to give me new bags that had the same date. I finally just asked for apple sauce instead. They didn't seem to care at all that the apples were bad... they took the bags that they offered and I declined right back in the bin on the service line.

Does where you sit seem to have any impact on the severity of the bump?

the front row is the best. Personally, I think the further back you get the worse it is.

I've noticed that the concept art is also showing 8 person boats instead of the 6 that they had before.

It's 8 per raft and 18 rafts total. They will have latching seat belts and not Velcro.

Not much for me to complain about....maybe the lack of a tunnel (from the looks of the drawings) is a big out of place considering the backstory.

There is a tunnel that leads to the lift. Brad talks about the mineshaft tunnel at about the 26 minute mark in the live stream: https://www.facebook.com/sdcattractions/videos/742966136146784/?t=1562

They keep saying that it's the tallest raft ride drop in the Western Hemisphere. Is there being another one built overseas that will be taller?

Happy to see that the minimum height only went to 40" since this replaces a ride that was one of the 36" height rides.
