I have very eclectic tastes. I can listen to anything from Mozart to trance to Will Smith to Aerosmith.

Will Smith is one of the only "rap" artists I can listen to, but mostly 'cause his music isn't 100% hardcore rap. I do like Eminem. I also prefer female rap artists; there's just something about the rhythm of their music and voices that I like. I really like Avril Lavigne's remix of "Girlfriend" featuring Lil' Mama.

I don't listen to as much Christian music as I used to as a kid. I do like Mercy Me, and we just recently listened to our old Margaret Becker cassette and realized just how much we liked it.

I can't listen to Mozart. Whenever I was in middle school I was required to take music class and we had to learn all about the classics. I couldn't stand any of it. Now that I'm in high school I can take whatever classes I want. Granted, I am not in music class. Will Smith is pretty good although I like his movies better.

Rock on Aerosmith! I saw Mercy Me in concert a couple years ago and they were very good and very entertaining. The Newsboys and Tobymac are also very entertaining concerts to go to.

What type of music do you guys like to listen to? I like Christian rock mostly but I'll also listen to almost anything else with a rhythm. Except for rap and hip-hop. I'm not into that stuff.

I like contemporary and rock Christian music.  I have very eclectic tastes too, but I don't like rap/hip-hop.  My fave artists/bands would have to be Steven Curtis Chapman, Michael W. Smith, Switchfoot, Jars of Clay, Chris Tomlin, Casting Crowns, Garth Brooks, Goo Goo Dolls, Dashboard Confessional, Jimmy Eat World, Lifehouse, Coldplay, and my all-time fave is definitely U2.

Have you guys been to any good concerts?  I've been to a lot.  My fave concerts are:  Steven Curtis Chapman (Chris Tomlin and Casting Crowns opened for him!), Goo Goo Dolls, Lifehouse (The Calling opened for them!), Journey, STYX, Coldplay, and far above all of these faves is I've seen U2 live twice!  They are definitely worth every penny and put on a transcendental, spiritual show.  It really takes your heart and soul to another level seeing U2 in concert.

I have seen TobyMac in concert three times. He puts on one of the best shows, if not the best. It is close up there to the Newsboys. I enjoy Newsboys concerts but I can't really just sit there and listen to their music you know what I mean? I have also seen The Afters, Mercy Me, Jeremy Camp, Rebecca St. James, Family Force Five (twice ROCK ON!)

Also on Labor Day I went to some music festival at Starlight Theatre in Kansas City. I can't remember the name of the festival right now though. Hawk Nelson, FF5, TobyMac, and Superchick were all there, plus a lot more.

I'm also embarassed to say that when I was younger I saw N*sync in concert. Sadly.

I went to a Steven Curtis Chapman/Mercy Me Christmas concert a few years ago; they were promoting Chronicles of Narnia like CRAZY. It was a fun concert.

The only other concerts I've been to were the Monkees in the mid '90s and a Beatles tribute band.

I have seen a bunch of shows. The ones that immediately come to mind are Ben Folds, Bob Dylan, The Black Crowes, Blues Traveler, Cheap Trick, Dave Matthews Band (three times), Sheryl Crow, Sixpence None the Richer (three times), REM, Radiohead and even Van Halen (back in the very early 90's) and the Spice Girls (in the mid-90's). I also saw a TON of Christian shows when I lived in Nashville.

That's one thing I really miss about living in Nashville.

Speaking of Narnia, I'm really excited about that movie coming out! I've read the books so I enjoy the movies also. I'm also excited for the new Indiana Jones. I hope they don't ruin it though.

I'm planning on being at the midnight showing for Indiana Jones. I would be for Narnia, 'cept they don't have any midnighters scheduled around here last I checked.

The only other midnight movie this year for me will be Harry Potter in November. There ARE plenty of movies I'm definitely wanting to see this year, though; it's a rare year when there are more than five movies that catch my attention in a whole year.

Wow, you saw the Monkees in the mid '90s?!?  I had NO idea they were still touring then.  The one time I really remember seeing any of the Monkees around then was when Davy Jones guested on an episode of Boy Meets World in the mid '90s and he and some of the Monkees performed at the end of the episode.  I think their old manager had a cameo as well.

I guess it's not that weird that the Monkees were touring in the mid '90s, considering that New Kids On the Block is now reuniting...  It's sad to say, but I don't think bands like that will ever go away.  :-\

Joy

I think it was in '96. And it was actually three of the four Monkees; Mike didn't tour with them. We got to meet Davey, Peter, and Mickey the day before when they had an autograph session at our Suncoast store at the mall (which is no longer there). They were all very nice.

I can't believe that New Kids is reuniting. Of course, I was surprised when I found out they were trying to put together a new Menudo. I guess you just have to expect ANYTHING to happen these days.

I'm not into Harry Potter. I never really have been. I read the first book and I didn't really like it.

It'd be really cool to go to a midnight show. I've never been to one before mostly because, I don't know if our theater offers them. Another movie that comes out here in a couple weeks is Made of Honor. It looks pretty funny. Romantic comedy I guess is what you would call it.

If you have an AMC theater, you have a pretty good chance of having a midnight showing. It all depends on the movie; typically it's the big summer blockbuster type fare, like Pirates of the Caribbean or big comic book movies.

I've been to, oh let's see, eight midnight showings (maybe nine, but it's difficult to keep track); all three Star Wars prequels, the 3rd through 5th Harry Potter movies, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Midnight showings are a very unique and fun experience. When waiting in line for the second Star Wars prequel, that day/evening was my birthday. So we brought cookies and games and had fun with the people in line with us. When we were all seated in the theater and close to showtime, the theater manager came in to give us the typical "this showing is sold out, please move towards the center to make room for people still arrive" speech. After that he announced, to a sold out crowd of my fellow Star Wars fans, that it was my birthday and had everyone sing Happy Birthday to me. It turns out my stepbro and my dad had set that up. It was embarrassing at first (I'm not used to being in the spotlight), but I really enjoyed being sung to by my fellow fans.

As for Harry Potter... well, if you watch the first and second movies, then there's no real need to read those two first books as they cover them pretty exhaustively (which makes for a slightly tedious movie, but good summary of the books). Starting with the third book and on, things really start to get going and each book matures with its audience. By the seventh book, you're deep into young-adult territory rather than being another "children's book". The last two movies have been rated PG-13; I'm expecting this next one (which is the second to last) to be PG-13 as well. They're splitting the seventh book into two movies so that they don't have to cut out any important information. Depending upon how faithful they are and where they decide to do the split, I could see the first part being PG-13 and the second part getting VERY close to an R.

I didn't become a Harry Potter fan until I was already 18 years old; I had never seen the movies, but saw the trailer for the third and thought it looked interesting. So in my second semester of my senior year in high school, I read all the books (that were published at that time) and instantly fell for them. I've stopped re-reading the first two; they haven't aged as well as the rest. But if you can get past those first two (either by reading or by watching the movies), I can say that the rest of the series really matures well.

I like Harry Potter and Star Wars a lot.  I've seen all the HP movies except Order of the Phoenix.  I suppose I'll see it eventually.  I've read all of the books, each at least twice.  I was happily surprised that I wasn't let down at all with The Deathly Hallows.  It was a great way to end a great series, and I'm glad to hear that Rowling is moving on and writing two novels right now (neither related to HP at all).

I'm looking forward to the new Indiana Jones movie and Wall-E; to a lesser extent, Prince Caspian as well.  I'm not big about seeing movies in theaters anymore.  The last one I saw in theaters was Ratatouille in July of last year (before that it was Superman Returns in July of 2006).  I've been wanting to see Grace Is Gone (starring John Cusack) and have marked on my calendar that it's coming to DVD on May 27.

The last movie I watched (if you can call it a movie; it's actually a Star Wars variety show  :P) was The Star Wars Holiday Special.  I can't believe I watched it all the way through (at least I didn't pay anything to see it, except that I now have lost 2 hours of my life that I'll never get back  :-[).  I really wish I hadn't watched it.  Awful doesn't even begin to describe it.  The Star Wars Holiday Special IS the Dark Side.  Stay away!  :o

Joy

You have got GUTS to watch the Holiday Special all the way through... and you did it in one sitting? *is amazed*

^I don't think I could do it again.  I was completely sober, and I've heard people say you can watch it drunk, but I honestly don't think intoxicants would help.  They try to knock you out right at the beginning with 10 minutes of Chewbacca's family interacting at their house, speaking in grunts.  No English for 10 minutes, and no subtitles either.  C-3PO shows up at the Wookiee Life Day Ceremony at the end (the weird bright star space scene) and interprets what's going on.  I remember thinking, "Where was he at the beginning for the 10 minute scene with Chewie's family?  Really could've used him!"  The recycled Star Wars footage is kinda funny.  In a painful way.  Especially the redubbed 30 second scene with Vader and the commander (discarded SW footage); that's all you see of Vader for the special and they list him as a "star" in the opening credits.  After redubbing the commander's lines (his lips movements definitely don't match the dialogue) Vader responds with this classic line:  "I want the rebels located and identified if it means searching every household in the system."  And Carrie Fisher looks drugged throughout the entire thing.

Bottom line:  Stay away from this train wreck!
