Went to the park for a few hours today, it was a sweltering mess.
We rode Wildfire and I couldn't help but think they should shut off that mist effect on days like today.  That raises the humidity so quickly in that load area those ride ops must be miserable at around 4 pm.
Powder Keg broke, not sure of they ever got it up again, they were running 2 trains on Wildfire and 3 on PowderKeg. I was proud of that.
After Powderkeg let me down ( I was next in line to load after a 30 min wait) I decided that a Rootbeer Float was all I needed to make my short trip compleat.
It is so nice to have a pass and live close......

BTW, they were spraying alot of water on the crowds today with hoses.   I am not sure if that would make me feel cooler or just wet and miserable.  I stayed away from the water.

What is attendance like during the weekdays of mid-August? There isn't a festival during that time so I'm hoping the city won't be too crowded.

Copper

The last few weeks in August are some of the best times to visit. Attendance is rather low, so you don't have to stand in line for anything. And the streets are not packed, plus you can visit with the craftspeople and other citizens.

Thats probably because school starts back up at that same general time. I'd rather be at SDC anyday than school though. :D

I have been to the city so many times that I cant count.
Living close allows me to drop in for a cpl hours and then go into town.
I have found that any time the school is in session the crowds are nonexistent.
At least on  weekday, I choose Sunday if I have to go on a weekend as it seems lighter than Saturday.
I really enjoy going during school season, if you can, I recommend it.

I will be on Park this weekend.  Hope to see the Kids Fest shows I missed in June.  Anyone else going to be there?

My husband and I are going to SDC Tuesday and Wednesday kids free!  Thanks mom! I can't wait.  Then, I'm meeting my cousin the next week and we're bringing our kids--all girls.  Two trips to look forward to before school starts.  Yippee!

We are going tomorrow mid-afternoon.  Are the crowds just too large even during the week?

The crowd was fine.  The new parking policy seems to be "Hey let's make it as inconvenient as possible by funneling everybody into one lane, parking them as far away as possible even thought there are closer lots, and make them wait in long lines for trams that are few and far between, cram twice as many people as are recommended into a bus, so they will think twice about paying for preferred parking on their next visit."  To their credit, the 200 people in our line were oddly patient with the process.

That really sets a poor tone for welcoming guests.

From then on, I was nothing but critical.  Strangely, my high point was watching some poor 20ish man ride the Happy Frogs; you would have thought he was riding the mechanical bull at Gilley's.  Another plus was the lady behind the counter in the Marketplace; she was as cheerful as a clerk can get.

Ride lines were long, but not due to the crowds.  Lost River was reported to be a 90-minute wait, and it looked to be an accurate estimate.

We quickly left, after a couple of hours, checked in at our hotel, and had a great time at Grand Country's indoor water park.  I refuse to participate in Moonlight Madness anyway.

I hope your experience is better.  Our trip earlier in the summer was one.  of.  the.  best.  ever.  Big contrast!

What do you think the problem was?
