General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Do they sell this at SDC?

Now here is a support group I can enjoy!  Been there, done that and yes I would buy a roll of SDC wrapping paper if it were available!  :)

I enjoy taking pictures of SDC and take advantage of the low crowd days to get some pic's -- but for the rest of the time I like a good medium to large crowd.  It's more fun!

Branson Talk / Mutton Hollow
« on: January 02, 2012, 09:31:58 AM »
Many years ago when we started visiting Branson and SDC there was a place called Mutton Hollow.  There was a long wooded drive down into the hollow just off of 76 Highway.  We enjoyed visiting there in the evening and the cabin restaurant.  If I recall correctly this is the area that is now occupied by Celebration City.  I wished that this could have been preserved and even today wish that this could be restored (although it would require planting a lot of trees).

We enjoyed going down into that area after SDC closed for dinner and just mill around.  Celebration City purchased the park that replaced Mutton Hollow and was, as I understand it, a place for families to go in the evening.  To have traded Mutton Hollow for the Walt Disney like amusement park was in my opinion a missed opportunity.  You can ride go carts, roller coasters and play the arcade games almost any place.  But spending time around an open fire, roasting marshmallows, swapping stories, learning about the Branson folklore and just spending time together is something very unique and special to this area.  Mutton Hollow was and potentially could be that again.  If anyone could make this happen -- it would be the Herschend Family Entertainment organization.

P.S. If anyone has any pictures of Mutton Hollow or could point me towards a site -- I would love to check them out. - Thanks.

Thanks.  I really enjoyed your pictures.  You have what they call the 'Photographer's Eye'.  My favorite was the white candles hanging in the candle rack to dry by the window (really nice).

What kind of camera do you use?

This is probably not the group you were referencing but the Blue & Gray Pickers out of Lone Jack, Missouri use a wash tub base.  This picture was taken at SDC in 2002.

I found a great picture of Mr. Stanlee in the book "The Story of Silver Dollar City" by Crystal Payton (pg. 100).  It has a little write up about Mr. Stanlee.  According to this book he passed away in 1997.

From the late 1970's there was an individual by the name of Luke Stanlee (if that is the correct spelling).  As best I can remember he walked around the main square with a broom and long handle dust pan sweeping stray items on the walkways.  Often when Horsecreek Band was at the Gazebo (or the equivalent of that back then) Mr. Stanlee would dance a jig.  We always enjoyed seeing him.  I was just curious if anyone has a picture of him or could share more information about him.  Thanks. - Steve

Thanks.  I'm not much of an artist when it comes to picking up a brush to paint something.  Photography and photo editing is something I enjoy and SDC is one my favorite places to take pictures.

Great pic's!  I suspect my Rube Dugan pictures are most likely the 'tourist' pictures.  As soon as I get a chance I'll pull out the print archives and look.

I'll have to see if I have any picture of Rube Dugan's Diving Bell.  We rode that ride 2-3 times.  We enjoyed the theme. -

We have been attending SDC for 33 years.  The past few years I have focused on capturing images of this favorite place of ours.  My website is http://www.woolenmillstudio.net.  I post a new picture each Sunday.  Past pictures are in the 'Silver Dollar City Archive' section.  I hope you enjoy.
