General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: 2023 Crowds / Trip Reports

We went to the park Thursday and Friday. I knew about the parking lot construction from reading on here but that didn't stop us from entering the parking lot the wrong way. Instead of staying all the way to the left for the free parking, my husband went to a booth with a green arrow and had to be told to turn around. Hopefully the signage will be better once the construction is finished. Thursday was chilly and cloudy but we were fine with pants and jackets. The crowds were low so my two boys got to ride their favorites multiple times. My husband and I rode the train. I was glad it was back. The show was funny. One of the bother's guns fell apart when he pulled it out which lead to some funny improve. The brothers were two younger guys that I haven't seen in the rolls before.
We started the day with Fire in the Hole as is our tradition and actually had to wait in a small line which it kept all day. We found Red Flander's pants and bought our FITH t-shirts. We even bought refillable mugs since their were FITH themed. First time I've ever bought a mug.
Friday was a little warmer and the sun was out a little more and so were the crowds. Outlaw Run got up to 45 minutes at once point and that rarely happens when we are there. We left around 4 to make our 4 1/2 hour drive home.
I have to say I'm just not a fan of Street Fest. I still miss World Fest. Street Fest doesn't seem to have any cohesive theme.
I had a first in all my visits. I had to go to First Aid for a band aid. My shoe gave me a blister on my heel. I enjoyed getting to go "backstage" and the guys in FA were very friendly and helpful. We talked about how much more crowded the park has gotten in the past few years.
It was a good trip. It's just different with teenagers vs small kids. They are happy to run around and do their own thing. My husband and I ended up in the rocking chairs in front of the taffy shop for a good while on Friday. We got season passes so we will be back for fall and Christmas. My husband and I may even go for a day when we are in Branson in June. Depends on how hot it's gotten by then.

We were at the park yesterday and today and noticed many of the pressed penny machines were missing. Does anyone have any intel on why they are gone?

In the process of being replaced by ones that only take card.  Since the park is now cashless that makes sense.  Expect them to cost more though

If the city is cashless now how are they handling kids that are on school trips or field trips?  Surely there would be a major problem with them using parents credit or debit cards.

I think he means if you want to be cashless, you can. We used cash several times.

I’m pretty certain I’ve asked this before, but has there been any mention of bringing back the pork rind stand?

Looking ahead to Christmastime, we used to visit the week of Thanksgiving and it would be dead. Especially the day before thanksgiving and the day of thanksgiving. Now it's so busy we do not enjoy going during this time anymore. So this year we are looking at visiting the Sunday and Monday after Thanksgiving, so the 26th and 27th. We have teenage boys who like to ride the rollercoasters multiple times. I know Sunday may still be a little busy but should that Monday be pretty low crowds?

I do not think it is 2.13.  The 1 is actually a capital I with a different font 3 at the end.

It actually is a 1. It’s in Big Caslon font.

People are still mad about Lost River...

That’s me! Not mad, but very sad I didn’t get a chance to ride Lost River one last time.
We made a trip last year even though we weren’t planning to go in 2022 because I was afraid FITH would close without an announcement.

My family, especially my dad, are not so patiently waiting for the fried pork rinds to return.

I also noticed above the pumpkin stage the lighted letters only spelled out "pumpkins" like last year instead of "pumpkin nights" which it originally said.

It only said Pumpkin Nights for the first year in 2019.
They then changed it to Pumpkins in the City and it has said Pumpkins since 2020.

Ah! Makes sense! I hadn't thought about the name change being a factor.

I'm always surprised at the amount of school groups and other groups. We attended opening day of Pumpkin Nights and there was a large group from McDonald's checking in. They even had a special tent set up for them to hand out refill mugs. I was afraid they were going to cause long wait times on certain rides if they went around as a group, but strange thing was we only ever saw a couple of them the rest of the day.

We attended opening day and I was very underwhelmed with the hollow. Way too much fog and all the lights did were slowly change colors. I was expecting new pumpkins on the trail as well and there were none. Just fog and lights and very "ethereal" music.
I was also disappointed with the many damaged pumpkins I saw still put out on display. Many with sections broken out to the point were you couldn't determine what the carving was originally. These need to be left out or replaced.
I also didn't think they were as thoughtful with the placement of some of the pumpkins this year. Some themes seemed mixed together or placed in random places.

The missing letters and the many damaged pumpkins makes me think they don't take much care when they store these things after the season.

I’ve done a quick read though of posts so I may have missed if someone already mentioned this-

Have they installed a new pressed penny machine with a Time Traveler design yet?

Also, does anyone know what times of year they make and sell the spicy peanut brittle. I discovered it for the first time last fall and was disappointed to discover they don’t sell it at Christmas due to making holiday brittle at that time. Are there different brittles for every season/festival?

Sadly, I don’t think we will make it to the park this year, much to the disappointment of my boys. They are very impatient to ride Time Traveler.  We do already have a trip planned for next April to look forward too though.

Thanks to everyone who posts about their trips!

General Silver Dollar City Talk / A couple of dining questions
« on: September 23, 2017, 09:10:33 AM »
Hello everyone! I haven't posted in a while but we are getting ready to head to SDC next Wednesday - Friday (hopefully right in time for cooler weather).
I was wondering what everyone's opinions on Percy's might be. Should we give it a try or stick to our old favorites? What were you favorite meats your tried? Chicken vs beef, etc?
Also, is there anyway to find prices online for Percy's and the other dining locations? It sure would be helpful to those of us who have to budget our trip rather carefully!
Thank you!

Oh, I see the confusion. We will be getting there at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, not Thanksgiving.
