General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Thanksgiving
« on: September 30, 2014, 02:24:03 PM »
We've been at Thanksgiving twice before, just never eaten there. I'm not sure how I will be standing around for an hour and a half? If we eat at 2:30, I figure we'll be in the restaurant over an hour, so get out at 3:30 at the earliest and the park opens at 4. We get there at least 30 minutes before rope drop every time we go.

Thanks everyone! I decided to email SDC directly and got a response the next day.

Mandy~

Thank you for your email and thank you for choosing to spend your Thanksgiving with us! The Mill/Mine/Reunion Hall Buffet restaurants will open on Thanksgiving Day when the turnstiles open.  The turnstiles and square will open at 2:30 and the remainder of the park at 4:00 pm.  All three buffets will open with the traditional Thanksgiving meal to include turkey and all the trimmings.  Sometime between 4:00 and 5:00 the Reunion Hall will change their menu to the Prime Rib.

We look forward to seeing you in November.
Happy Thanksgiving!

I was pleased to get a response. Our plan is to go drive up on Wednesday and be at the park by opening that day at 1 p.m. and then spend Thanksgiving day in the park as well and drive home on Friday and avoid the madness (hopefully). Now I just need to find a place to have breakfast on Thanksgiving morning!

What time do they start serving Thanksgiving dinner? And is more than one restaurant open?

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Dulcimer music
« on: August 22, 2014, 11:16:05 AM »
Can you guys help me out with the names of some of the dulcimer songs the Homestead Pickers play? I'm working on a SDC soundtrack for our drive up next month. I have the FM and FITH soundtracks, now I need some dulcimer music! That's one of my strongest memories of my childhood visits. Do the Homestead Pickers have a cd or anything? I searched iTunes to no avail.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Wooden names gone
« on: May 23, 2014, 05:40:47 PM »
I noticed on our trip last week that the place where you could buy your name carved/sawed out of wood in the exit shop was replaced by a place that prints signs. Is it completely gone or just moved? I will be very sad if it's really gone. All of my siblings, our spouses and children all have names from that shop. This was our first trip since November 2011 so it's possible it's been gone a couple of years.

We will be in SDC May 12 and 14th. Looking forward to it! Our first time back in 2 years! We are going to see Jonah at Sight and Sound on the 13th. And we are staying at The Falls (Blue-Green) with friends who reserved the room with their points. I've never stayed in a time-share, so I hope it works out well.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Cost of the carnival games
« on: May 06, 2014, 10:45:09 AM »
Does anyone remember the cost of the games in the Grand Exposition? Like the basketball game, shooting arcade, etc. I'm not a fan, but of course, my boys beg to play them whenever they see them. I told them this time they can play them if they use their own money, but I don't know how much they should bring.

We will be there next Monday and Wednesday! Getting excited, although I hope Wednesday's not a rain-out.

Thanks everyone!

So, I've entered my hyper planning mode for our trip next month, which includes planning what I want to eat! I saw the Pretzel Dog, that's going on my list, but I really want a walking taco! Are those only sold at Christmas?
What are your go-to snacks?

Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC's 2015 Project
« on: April 08, 2014, 05:38:22 PM »
Hello everyone! Long time, no post, but we are headed back to SDC this year after a 2 year break. I myself would really love to see a dark ride, such as Peter Pan, etc! My youngest doesn't like coasters (although we do make him ride FITH for his own good  ;) ). So he and I end up bench sitting a good portion of the day while Dad and big brother ride, or we ride Flooded Mine over and over!

He had transferred to Wild Adventure to go to school nearby. Wild Adventure is also owned by Herschend Family Entertainment.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Question about Harvest Fest
« on: May 02, 2013, 10:31:30 PM »
We are thinking about going to Harvest Fest this year. We have never been to this particular Fest before. I was looking at some of the acts that will be there and most of the stated their location as Valley Road. I'm just trying to figure out how they can fit in Texas Trick Riders, etc. Is there a location that's not usually open during the rest of the year?

Yes, I try to use pre-1982. I go to the bank and get rolls of pennies and pick out the pre 1982. Kinda frustrating how few I find.

I just looked on ebay and noticed several new designs, including outlaw run, fire in the hole, Brown's candy, the giant swing, and lost river! Awesome!

Did anyone notice if there was a new pressed penny machine for Outlaw Run?
