It got stuck at one point today.  Not sure if it had riders on it as the trees have leafed out,and it's now hard to see from the Culinary School porch. Didn't seem to take too long to get it running.  I heard some joke about Harvey getting to ride alone, so I'm assuming that was a dummy test drive, but the others on the porch seemed to think it was a real person being really brave.  ;D

Today was as crowded as I've seen it this year, but I don't go on weekends (excluding today  ;D), and it was very manageable.  Vincent's shows were great as usual.  I only planned to attend the first one, but Hubs wanted to see it one more time.  The first show was mostly gospel, which might turn a few off, but it was fantastic.  I saw the last one of the day, completely different, and Barbara Fairchild came up on stage from the crowd and sang a couple numbers with her. What's the attendance today, Sand?

I saw Po Ramblin Boys there a couple days ago, and the sound was fine.

I saw the 11:30 Vincent show, and it was packed out! Seriously, not another person could fit in there, and people kept coming in after the show started. Opera House employees had their hands full today. I left right at 12:30, so not sure about afternoon crowd.  It did seem like there were far fewer kids there this morning than yesterday.

Sand, it was a great, but short, visit.  Watched opening ceremonies (they're back to honoring veterans), listened to the Homestead Pickers at the Gazebo, saw Rhonda Vincent at the Opera House, and left.  We planned to stay longer, but something came up (no emergency).  Here's a photo of today.  My guess is attendance was a bit higher than yesterday.

I have to go to Branson next Wednesday for "work" to meet up with one of my employees.  I am thinking I may go Wednesday for a while before I have to meet up with him.

Probably a good idea.  wed will be reasonable for the time being... Probably wont get busy during the week until after memorial day..

Today.  as of 4:00-  about 5500 people.. ;D

No way do I believe that! Shows were full, walkways were full, and we waited in a couple of lines to eat.  There were at least 6 different field trips going on based on the kids with matching shirts.  I waited in line at the bathroom.  I left sometime between 3:30 and 4.

Do you think they will fix it or do away with it?  Shave, this is slightly off topic, so feel free to delete it you wish. But speaking of rides, I met a young retired wounded warrior recently that applied for a job at the City as a mechanic working on rides.  They were ready to hire him, but he can't ride the rides due to injuries, so they turned him down.

Yeah, I saw the post on Facebook about expecting large crowds.  I think that's commendable of them to announce it.  I really wanted to go Thursday, opening day, but life and rain got in the way.  Maybe next week!

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Blacksmiths

Hubs were asking about a blacksmith that was hired last summer and was told he recently quit.  He was a really nice guy that invited the hubs to his personal forge to do a few things he didn't have tools to do himself. In the blacksmith "circle of life  ;D ), the word is that they have a hard time keeping blacksmiths for a couple of reasons.  One being, the PTB are more interested in them making the cast aluminum signs and meeting a quota on them rather than actual smithing. Another reason is that they are told to crank out the small items that sell quickly rather than actual "artful" items.  Lastly, they are bounced back and forth between the forge and the knife shop and they find it hard to keep up their quota on the cast aluminum and small things and that's frowned upon. Sounds to me like they have a hard row to hoe.

Today was our third day in a row on park.  We don't do that too often, but the crowds were low, and we wanted to see most of the shows before we come back next week with friends.  William Close Earth Harp is a don't miss show if you are on park.  I liked last year's show better, but this year's show featuring movie tunes was also very good. Harp and Hang is the most talented and entertaining show, by far.   Look them up on youtube if you don't know who they are (Marianne Gubri and Paolo Borghi). SDC is lucky to be able to feature someone as talented as they are. I was happy to see they were moved from the Gazebo this year as I thought they deserved a better venue, but they are sort of tucked out of the way at the Boatworks Theater, and I think a lot of people just walk on by without realizing they are there.  CirqUnique is a fun show. Thirty minutes is plenty long enough for it - lots of balancing and comedy. The finale makes the whole show worth it. Today we saw the Illusionist. Loved it! The Paint Jam guy (Dan Dunn) is not here this year.  It was mentioned that he is having health issues, but his sub is filling in nicely.  He has had a nearly full house all 3 days I was there.

The park looks great. I'm happier with the rehab than I thought I would be.  Time Traveler is definitely the theme this year and it's everywhere - announcements, on cookies and cupcakes, ice cream, posters, decorations.  You can't miss it! lol There are new, huge concrete planters between the open areas and the stone flowerbeds on the road heading up front. Hubs and I both thought they kind of looked out of place - just huge stone boxes. The parking cones and parking attendants are a neon yellow/green that we think would show up on a satellite view. Yikes, are they bright!  ;D

A couple of points of interest: the blacksmith demos are now on a schedule. They have a blacksmith position open, so maybe it will drop off as daily scheduled demos when they hire another one.  I overheard a couple of employees talking about the flag ceremony.  They were discussing how upset some guests are over the changes.  It now starts about 10 min. before opening with the flag already up.  They've dropped the veterans recognition and flag raising. It's a simple "say the pledge and sing the song".  Hubs and I both noticed the flag up when we entered and thought we had missed it (weren't paying attention to the time), right before we heard the employees talking.  One mentioned she hoped they would bring it back in May.  If you are going one day only and hope to see all the shows, you'll have to pick and choose and plan your day.  They aren't staggered, so they are all pretty much happening at the same time. I don't remember it being that way last year.
