General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: How's Celebration City Doing?
« on: June 05, 2008, 04:54:49 PM »
It's nice to hear that the park is maturing. Hopefully in the next few years they'll be able to add a few more shows, a couple more shops, and a few choice rides to really settle out the park, then they can go back to the original plans for the park and really develop it into more of a nighttime park with extensive lighting and cool nighttime events. I still think the original idea can really work, if the park can just get there. Unfortunately, there's probably more money in the short and long run in turning the park into more of a mixed attraction with animals and other things, so we'll just see what happens.

^^Rather than a conveyor belt, they use a set of rising and lowering metal bars that actually pick the cars out of the water enough to be stable, so there shouldn't be anything like that anymore.

Funny though, I never noticed this conversion before.

Where is the Devils Stonepile? Is it near the Mammoth room?

I too have vague memories of the Swinging Bridge when I was young - it must be extremely impressionable.

I also remember the Landing when it was in it's glory, with tunnels, ropes, bridges, slides, and all those little do-dads.

I remember the tree house best of all though, before it was fixed to be PC - they had these pop guns that pointed out the window and all these random little games and mirrors.

Announcements / Help SDCFans Out

I really need some SDC photos to use in various site graphics, but I have a limited collection. If you guys have any random SDC photos that I could use, I would really appreciate it.

Specifically, I need some photos that show off SDC festivals - KidsFest photos would be really good right now. I could use other photos too, though I'm pretty much covered as far as rides are concerned.

Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC's 2009/10 Project

If it's as big a project as we all are assuming, they'll have to start intesive work before the season is up, and I'm fairly certain there will be signs and work in the months before that. It may be covered up, but surely one of us will notice a few trees disappearing, or surveyors working in some back corner of the park.

I mean, Mystery Mine took months to build, and anything like that at SDC will take just as long due to the earthwork that will be required just to get the land ready to build on. Even in the case of a wooden coaster, there will be land and trees to clear and move. So it can't be long now.

What I'm really wondering right now is whether or not they'll do teaser campaign. I really loved the whole set-up they did for MM, with the video clips and website - surely SDC's would be even better. In fact, maybe they'll announce the ride before we see any major work.

SDC Memories/ Park History / ThuNderaTion's 15th
« on: June 04, 2008, 10:52:37 AM »
ThuNderaTion has now been apart of SDC history for 15 solid years. Over time, much of it's original meaning has been lost, but the ride itself is still very popular. The theme is that a group called the Gumbo Gang is trying to start up the old J&P (Jack and Peter) Mine again, but as with all SDC characters, their eccentricity and clumsiness leads them to build a massive mine train roller coaster. Or something like that...

Anyway, anyone have and good memories about it? It's been mentioned before that there may have been a 3rd helix originally planned just before the brakes - and clarification on this?

So has anyone been by the park lately to check up on those flags? By now there may be more of them. Who knows, they may even be clearing land somewhere.

Some really great stuff there - really shows off what sets SDC apart from the other big league attractions. Did you guys try out any of the rides other than TGS?

Yes, it's a much faster, wilder, wetter ride now, not to mention easier to maintain and run from what I hear. I personally like the new version better, especially the way it whips up on those curves. It is a MUCH wetter ride now though, so it'd better be hot enough to warrant being drenched.

^Aw crap, I forgot about that. What was the actual opening day for TNT? If I've already missed it, I'll just do something when I get around to it.

Rob Alvey runs the famous themeparkreview.com. He spends much of his time traveling the world visiting theme parks and documenting them on film and photo, along with the antics of whatever random crew is with him at the time. He would be one to know about such a black list.

Whether such a thing exists or not though is beside the point. Like I said in the other thread, the basic point was that SDC doesn't allow filming on it's rides without special set-ups and permission. As we are fans, we obey the rules and discourage breaking them. That's all that needs to be said.

In case you haven't seen the branson tourism site yet, here it is -> http://www.bransontourismcenter.com/

It's full of great deals like 20 cents of gas at a certain station, cheap lodging deals, show packages and more.

No, I never got a chance. They were mostly in the front of the park; I think their two main breeding areas were near the Disaster Transport exit and near the classic Carousel on the main street. So we just kinda stayed away from those places.
