I think its illegal to fly a drone over Disney parks. It seems I read it's a no fly zone. Period. Direct orders from FAA. But the internet trends to lie, so......
If this is true, could SDC have same no fly zone rights?
If I am not mistaken WDW became a no fly zone on 9/11.  I dont believe that SDC has the same restrictions.  But this drone pilot was not on property or over it.  Parked at the lot across 76 from maintenance area.

^cease and desist incoming in 3...2...  lol

Is that the same guy that shut the park down a while back because of his drone?

LOL,  I dont know..
I just thought it was humorous, that we were just discussing pics after park closing and this showed up on another website.. ::)

You can tell the pilot is across the street (76) from the park.  I think as long as he doesn't go into the space above they cant do much.    I may be wrong but aerial views are not illegal.

On topic when you consider the influx of customers.  I have a personal theory as to why the Theme Parks are doing well right now.  We were discussing the number of days that SDC sent out notices via text (Get here fast or forget it)  They closed the gates at times this year.  Parking Full.  I just hope they dont believe they can close parts of the park for seasons at a time under this visitation level.  Is it wise to close 20% of your park when you are having bumper crowds without doing something to sop up the 20%.  If you dont provide a new distraction you are dispersing them into the major ride lines that are already full.  SDC  is in dire need of more benches and distractions and less dip & dots and Frozen lemonade stands every 10 ft.

That might be the last bit of The Diving Bell.   Maybe this it there tribute, It would be predictable.
Doesn't that wall serve to block some view of the new destruction from the train?

General Silver Dollar City Talk / SDC 2019 Operating Hours in December
« on: December 21, 2018, 08:47:10 AM »
I was just looking at the website and it looks like they intend to only open on Friday and Saturday in December 2019, Closed Sun-Thursday.  This is with the exception of the week of Christmas proper.  Well, that information assists in the decision on the seasons' pass.

This is surprising!  Sundays were always my day to go.

Its sad that SDC doesn't reinvest in their rides like DW. It is also sad that Molly, the girl on the hotel who replaces the " Ned Flanders scene on FITH well Molly used to be a portly girl and the joke was she was gonna jump and the voice under her made comment about his back as he was going to catch her.   Molly is now PC and has lost 200 lbs  I am sure the audio track is neutered as well.

I agree with your recollection as well.   The boulders were the best.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Food Packages at SDC
« on: December 07, 2018, 08:31:28 AM »
Disney has a no cash option that you can use.  Load up credits to your account and access them through a plastic watch band you wear that identifies you.    They are offering tastes or samples that are more than a bite and you can choose what you would like to try and also get a perk.  I would love this idea at SDC.  SDC misses the boat when it comes to food I think, its good I enjoy much of what they serve but I don't want to buy an entire pizza, I want a slice, Its like not offering a half rack of ribs, making you buy the entire thing.  Doesn't make sense.  1 pizza $20 1 pizza cut into 6 large pieces, 4.95 each.  I would buy it and SDC would increase the "take" buy a third.   Why not?  much of what they do in this department confuses me, I think they are behind with options of purchasing.  Don't need a whole rack of ribs, don't need a whole pizza, don't WANT to spend $9 on a bowl of potatoes however I would spend $30 on a card that would allow me to "try" things in a smaller portion.  This increases the experience for the guest, brings in more F&B income and creates interest, interaction, and options.  This would bring me to the park if this were wrapped in a festival.  An easy way to create a buzz and sell $30 worth of food, not $10.  I may add that when your only option is a large size this will affect that persons food purchases for the day.  They are full, you can only eat so much.  Smaller portions package price!

SDC Memories/ Park History / Re: Pictures from the Past!

Sometimes there is a certain picture that brings back fond memories of SDC.  I believe this one from 1977 does that for me more than any other.  In the 1970's it seems there was always a group or individual playing music on the left side as you entered the Hospitality House.   It seemed they were playing just for me to welcome me to the city.
I fondly remember this touch as well.  This was the SDC I grew up with and miss sometimes.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Food Packages at SDC

I just came across this on another site I will include the link.  Food package discounts and a perk thrown in, I love this idea and would be one to buy where I otherwise would go back into Branson to eat.  I do think the show perk may be a conflict but a 1 trailblazer ride ( TT excluded) would be a possible and fun addition to this idea.  Thoughts?

As far as brighter lights on the square, I hope not! (told you I was the killjoy). I'm not over the top crazy about midtown.  I walk through it each visit, I like it, admire it, and then feel a sense of relief after I exit it.  It's so "in your face" bright and big that I find it overwhelming. I hope they keep the somewhat softer lights on the square.

Dont misunderstand, Mid Town is really intense, I agree that you might even say "over the top"  The square seems to be missing little touches that were present before the midtown addition.  Carnival lights strung, Different style trees with different lights ext.  I preferred the "special touches" not the mag lights they are using now to light midtown  lol.

I was noticing how it got the cold shoulder and it was shoved off in the corner this season.
In fact, the efforts seemed to go mostly into Midtown.  Not that there weren't other lights but special things.

2 Coaster Chritmasses maybe 3 the count was 24000 I believe.   It because unmanageable as the day went on.
SDC has to make a move to give these crowds something to do when they are there.  The streets are gridlock.  These folks have paid 40-60 to get in, it will not take long for this to become an avoided event.  As the crowds grow the magic fades.

Glad you had a good visit...  should have been a near perfect night for almost 5500 people.. ;D
I wonder on the topic just how many employees it takes to run the park on a slower day?

As much as I hate to admit it, AP needs to be ripped out and completely replaced.
But as they would say at the office "what an opportunity"  A family driven boat ride with a controlled splash for seasonal changes. Great theming indoor elements and a splash
