Branson Talk / Re: Duck swamped by waves at Tablerock...

Don't pre-judge, I think they probably should have held back the boats but I had the same storm here just east of Branson.  It came up very fast and very hard, no warning.  I was scared to be in the garage with the door open and storms dont scare me.  The wind was mean.  Sad accident but the Bell was out as well, this was a freak hard fast event.

I'll check today and message you later.  message me pick up city and your city.

I really want to take my family to SDC to see all the lights but I am afraid of the crowds. I am thinking of visiting on Thursday, November 8th because I have read Thursdays are best but I wasn’t sure if that held true with Veteams’s day being that weekend. Anyone have advice?

Frankly speaking, you are going the only time I am willing to go at Christmas.  Before Thanksgiving, almost any days are acceptable however a Thursday should be especially light.  I think you have a great plan.  From Thanksgiving through to the end the season weekends can be really challenging.

I'd be curious to hear the total numbers for today.  I assume it was high but not record levels.  The crowd has nothing to do but ride rides right now.
I have stayed away this year thus far because of this very reason.  Each year I go early in the season I note the lack of greenery, the crowds and the lack of anything else to do but stand in line.  Even on the weekends when they know they will be busy you would think they would have some outside music or something, the city seems half alive and it really shows when its busy.  SDC may be getting to the point they will have to step up the game as the crowds appear to be stepping up.  You have to supply your customers with things to do and the shops / shows being closed are not helpful.

I am so excited to hear that Flooded Mine is getting a lot of riders! I know it seems to be even more buried with the new buildings, but at the same time, anyone who sits down to eat is likely to see the ride and think "oh hey, we should ride that".
Boy I sure hope you are right.  I have ridden that ride since I was old enough to ride on my own 30+ years and FM is a classic.  The guys there now take a lot of pride in their work and I hope they get lots of praises.   I hope SDC leave FM and FITH alone or just adds.  A rebuild concerns me because its the oldness that is the ride to me.  Recreations normally disappoint me, maybe I am just nostalgic and should wonder at the change.

So can you get everything done in 1 day or is it a multi day deal?  Does it get jam packed like SCD does?

If you have the SDC pass you will get in for half like I said. They like SDC also offer (after 3 next day is free) and the park is open until 10 in the summer so you can have 1.5 days for the price of a half day.  If you have a seasons pass.  It does get busy but the park is more spread out and walkways seem larger.  I think the park can accommodate a larger crowd.  I dont think "SDC at Christmas on a Saturday " would be the crowd but depending on the day.

I was in Dollywood a few years back.  Very much like SDC in part of it and SDC 2.0 in the rest.  I honestly think that you can see whats coming by looking at DW.  Half off admission to both the water park and the park.  When I went they let me in after 3 was next day free so we went for 1.5 days to DW and 1 day at the water park (blows white water away 100%) for the price of one days admission.   Its a fun place, its clean and they have more rides than SDC.  Less crafts.  Its worth the trip although I think it's less charming than SDC>  Let us know if you go.

Hotels in Pigeon Forge were high so I went to Bass Pro and signed up for a timeshare tour and that covered the hotel for 2 nights and several coupons for free foods ext around town.  This was the Bass Pro (Blue Green tour)  It really takes an hour and a half and as long as you can say "no thank you" you will be $400 ahead for your logging!

I guess to sum up my concern.  I would ask why SDC was out of Preferred parking seasons passes 2 weeks after they went up for sale but they have "still" not run out of Seasons pass trailblazers?  The number of Seasons pass trailblazers sold governed by what, Greed?  or keeping a balance?  I have not read reports up to this year of people mentioning a tangible wait increase to ride because of the "Trailblazer' or as I like to call it  "paying to break the rules" pass.   SDC better figure out how to hold back these folks till every 3rd or 4th train and let several ride at once.  I believe the immediate ride program if continued unabated will overload the system and you will have unhappy regular pay visitors.   Getting greedy doesn't work in the end.   Disney is starting to get public fan pushback to money grabbing.
SDC wants to be careful while they are making money.  They are starting to get some big-time attention in the amusement world they don't want to have any avoidable short sited missteps.

Sorry can’t cut and paste Sand I am at work but as okibenz said powder keg had a long line of trailblazers.  Up to this point SDC has kept this controlled but it sounds like they are loosening up the # they are willing to sell.  I was skeptical of the pass but then after a few years never really noticed any hindered effort to get on the rides as a standard customer.  Okiebenz seems to have encountered a problem.  I wonder how they have changed the internal policy.   I was there during the Coater Christmas and there were 185 of us, I didn’t see any build up of trailblazers at the rides.  Sounds like there might be more passes in circulation.  This will be curious to watch.

The park was a mad house today. Insane crowds. Not as bad as Christmas though. Tons and tons of people with trailblazer passes. I have never seen so many people with passes. Finally decided to wait for PK which showed a 30 minute wait ended up being over an hour because a long line of trailblazers kept filllig up the trains. I guess they paid for it so more power to them. I am seriously considering getting a season pass one, well 3 of them that is. Was a very nice weather day for sure.

Maybe some of our "citizens" can clarify, I was always under the understanding the trailblazers were very limited, only a certain amount sold daily.  How are they policing this?  If you have a Seasons pass trailblazer do you have unlimited times on the coaster?  How do they know you havent passed off your trailblazer?  This could become a problem.  Maybe like Disney they need to modify the plan to a (come back in 10 min) and you can ride plan.   I think when WDW does this they are able to slip them through because they have a larger RPH count to begin with.  What are your thoughts?

Don't they own all the way out to the apartments as well out in the woods beyond the train loop?  If you google maps you can see.  Some where on here they had  a"ownership" map.  I think there would be room for a resort and transport through the woods.

They are however in the planning stages of building a secondary entrance/exit. The old parking lot by Grand Expo being the likely future site. Not sure how that will work logistically with the trams/buses, but we will see.
In the 90's we used an entrance that was built into Shad's shack down next to the bathrooms at the red gold hall.  You could park in the employee parking and they had an entrance in this area.  It may have been for busses ext. but I remember using it because there was no line.  This would make sense when they are parking people down near Notch to funnel them in this way.  My only issue is this is prime real estate back there.  That parking lot is flat and needs almost no prep for additional expansion.  I would think they will soon fold this into the park.  Its close to 76 but if you consider what other parks have done near roadways (ToonTown and Tomorrow land in DL) You can effectively block the sights and the sounds of the road with buildings and a few trees behind them.  However, I don't know that is as much of a concern as it once was.

The media day coverage was great.  I myself look forward to the trees filling in.  I also wish they would plant something down there and cover some of the red dirt.  Not a huge complaint but they could improve the looks of the valley and block the view of Indian Point.  Indian Point Rd itself is the most festering detail.  It doesn't look like they made a real effort to put up a natural screen.  Pine trees guys, cheap, always provide visual block.  Plant soon for future growth.  Looking forward to the general public reaction today!
