Let’s not forget that Kentucky Kingdom and Wild Adventures both serve alcohol.  These are Herschend parks.  Their aquariums have wine mixers.  So this is inevitable.  It’s money being left on the table.

I was gonna refrain from getting in the middle of this but they could serve but simply have a no liquor sales on Sundays like some stores/cities/states have to appease both sides of the argument.

It's probably a moot point anyway.  I don't see them serving alcohol at SDC.

This is interesting. I was unaware of that. The Herschends fall into the pentecostal religion, I believe. I seem to remember a recent story of a man at a church in the area there charges with child porn and one of the Herschends gave a character reference trying to keep him out of jail. And a lot of the people you see walking around with women wearing long akirts and long hair are united pentecostal. There are a lot of them in that area. Not to mention college of the ozarks and their extreme religious beliefs. I grew up in that religion and alcohol is definitely one of their big “sins”. I believe Purdy, Missouri was kind of the inspiration for Footloose. And all of the dry counties in Arkansas

I agree with you though that it would turn some away and bring others in. I think you are right in that it is inevitable. Unsure how I feel about it though. Even though I rom’t follow that religion (or any) these days

^ I agree that there should be no alcohol at the park.  SDC is a great place to take your family.  There are plenty of other places (including some theme parks) where you can get alcohol.

You realize prohibition is over, right?  Literally all parks have alcohol now (even Disney).

To be fair, 12 bucks for a 12oz serving of Dufftoberfest helps moderate intake.

That is quite ridiculous as well. I have seen this dynamic at play for a decade with Springdale having Sunday package sales and Fayetteville not. (Yeah no sales on Sunday in the liberal college town). It makes no difference at all.

This is like all the Baptist and others in my old home town in Eastern Arkansas always against casinos and then I'd see them at Tunica on Saturday night. Quite frankly, I was shocked that Boone/Carrol Counties were not included in the location expansion in Arkansas. Branson may have finally got a casino resort,  just on the Arkansas side and land based at that. A missed opportunity.

Pretty sure I read somewhere the Herschends are not teatotalers themselves. The just play the part, especially the younger generation. I really doubt that it would make a difference either way on people coming and going to the park. If it is done discreetly in a couple locations I doubt you would ever know. Sort of like the Starbucks in the park now.

I was brought up as a drinking is evil Baptist. Sure am glad I left that behind. And then I think how can alcohol be so bad but all the sugered fat laden food they serve be OK ? Do not drink a beer, but  here shove this funnel cake down your mouth !!!

You’ve obviously not been to a major sporting event or concert recently 🤣

Personally, I refuse to pay that much for a drink (or more than a couple) but for a lot of people, money is no object to getting their drunk on

Oh I have, I just will not pay it very often. Often their drunk was helped along before hand.

If College of the Ozarks still owns the lease on the land, that could be a major reason why SDC is alcohol free.  Personally, I like the alcohol free environment.

One option (the way Disney does it) is alcohol could only be served at specific restaurants and those patrons wouldn't be able to take it out of that area. Plus you'd have a server serving and observing them making sure they don't have too much. Thousands...millions visit Disney parks each year and there are very few problems.

Had a Thrasher Black Lager to wash down the delightful BBQ Smoked Pork Belly Tater Tot Poutine at Flyway in North Little yesterday on the way back from duck hunting.

 Would like a nice beer to go along with my skillet meal at SDC.

Hope that doesn't send me to Hell. I also pickednup a few bottles of Trappist 10 and Klosterbrauerei Andechs Doppelbock in Mimfis . Both made by Monks in Abbeys.

I've never craved a beer at an amusement park and I personally like that I haven't had to deal with an overserved person at an amusement park.

I bet any new SDC resort will be serving something.  Makes ya wonder if that has be park of the hold up of building on.  Bet that resort won't be on least land from a church.
