no, he said that it would be open in 2027 FOR coaster-con, so its still a broken promise.
on another note, do you think that whatever replaces thunderation will reuse the name ala FITH? the website says TnT will be "retired" which iirc is different wording drom hen they announced the closure of FITH

Well, it's pretty obvious what's next going by the current trend of other classics that have recently bit the dust at the park... I'm almost certain now Flooded Mine will be gone by 2030 so get your rides in on it too. I feel this is something that will resonate well with long time SDC fans. This was inspired by Kings Island's ride graveyard and some internet memes.

EDIT: People should keep an eye on Dollywoods Nightflight Expedition opening soon to see how successful it is, that ride type will probably be it's replacement that will come to SDC sometime after 2030 if the park gives it the revamp treatment like they did for Fire In The Hole.

A thought I had today, what if all the mine talk is actually about the mine restaurant being re-opened.

I do see the tnt area being used as space to help with a new entrance. It will likely also help with some back of house space needs as well. Possibly some warehouse/delivery space or bus parking for guest artist tour buses.

I really think the plan was to keep it open till 2028ish but something accelerated that timeline. The comment about it being open at coaster Christmas in 2027 really felt like a that will be the last Christmas for it to be open message.

Quote from: Kisco on February 17, 2026, 11:04:12 AMI know this is totally a different thought, but TNT is somewhat near the entrance.  What if they are starting to make room to redo the entrance?  Maybe a new cave entrance?  The mining reference makes people think of the cave.  I know it could just be theming for a new ride, but what if they are working to make changes to the cave.  The current cave entrance hasn't changed much for decades.  It would require a lot of buildings to go away or change and a lot of dirt work, but they moved a lot of dirt just for parking and the entrance definitely needs some attention.
I know a new Front entrance is in the plans over the next 5ish years. It all makes sense, I dont know if it will take up the land from Thunderation but I would expect a new Front Entrance by 2032 at least.

Does anyone have photos of the TNT model that sat across from (what is now) Eva and Delilah's in 1992 promoting the new attraction?

This one hurts. Losing the original FITH was bad, but they built a new carbon copy so it lives on in spirit. I know they are building a new coaster, but I guarantee it will be nothing like TNT. This thing was a classic in many ways.

It also sucks that we are losing a high capacity ride, a ride a wide range of ages enjoy, and a ride that stays open near freezing temps. It will be replaced with something that probably has more limited appeal, breaks down constantly, closes every time it gets a bit chilly or wet, and has half the capacity leading to hour long lines for years.

I'm guessing they received some sort of engineering report outlining their options for maintenance. There was probably a fault found somewhere in the track or structure and it needed a million dollar repair. Someone decided that it just wasn't worth it any more with the new ride coming.

I think the biggest reason for the difference between Dollywood and SDC's expansion is that Dollywood has already removed most of their legacy attractions while SDC is starting to, which has allowed Dollywood to expand quicker than SDC

What bothers me the most about this is how every new ride since Time Traveler has been a replacement rather than adding something new to expand.  It's been the complete opposite of Dollywood.  DW just keeps getting bigger, while SDC stays the same size.  We visited DW last October and were blown away by how much larger it is.
