Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC's 2023 Project(s) and Park Developments

One progress step forward is three steps away from "not in Miss Mary's time". I have not been to sdc since 2017 because I just don't like the changes. Color me unimpressed.

And just like that, I was priced out of buying tickets for my family. I hope they give an option for JUST 2021 for the normal price. There is NO WAY I will pay over 600.00 for the chance to go. Especially if I have to wear a mask and make reservations or limit times I can go because they are crowded or my schedule does not match what they have available due to crowd levels.

There is just something about wearing a face mask in Missouri Armpit Summer that does not ring "Making memories worth repeating!"

The sound has returned to the bridge.

They really need to put the sign back up telling how the bridge collapsed, in February 1887 I think, as a posse was chasing Baldknobbers and if you listen closely you can still hear the posse's horses.  That way newbies would know why they hear the sound of horses crossing the bridge.  That sign would be very easy to do again if they don't have the original.

I highly doubt that they will put that sign up again. The reason? It would hurt someones feelings because of the Baldknobber history. I am surprised they have not removed it from Fire in the Hole as of yet. White men in hoods (in a historical sense) just dont do well in todays Zoomer standards.

This whole  mask wearing business is dumb. 100% dumb. At a water park is just futile. And how about them roller coasters? That mask is going to come clean off. If one does take it off to ride, there is not a "clean" spot to put it. Husband brought up the same point as sand.....hot weather makes for hot bodies. It will be interesting for sure to see how this all works out. We are going to stay far away from SDC until this whole dumb butt rules thing goes away. I too was questioning the guest limit. Imagine if the whole year is booked already. Then I come home from work with the great news the park is finally open only to find out I dont get to go because they are booked. I am really hoping next year is better.

If they have to do the whole social distancing deal, can you IMAGINE the lines just to ride the tram or the train??!! My friend in NC said her school district rules are one kid per every other seat on the bus! Yikes. And then 6 feet apart in lines!!?

Can someone explain the reservation system? If we have to have half capacity and I am assuming that puts it around 12,500 give or take.....that is not a huge number to pack in. With SDC being mostly outdoor I am not sure if they have different limits but again this is assumption, many would get turned away. Right? Would it also be hard to get in based solely on a reservation type system? Its not a year round park and opening later means less days to visit. I would be especially upset if I was a SP holder and was unable to get in because every day I could go was booked. Or if you wanted to visit as a non SP but only had a small window during the summer and you could not because its booked. Again these are all assumptions. I dont go to the big year round parks so I am utterly clueless on much.

I have wondered that as well but also had the thought of why tease something that isnt going to open in time for the summer hours? They might have an idea of when they are going to open, like the fall, when its not feasible to run this ride? Or maybe they are waiting to see how the bigger parks do on reopening before themselves opening?

If the new norm for SDC is running at half capacity, how would they fare? They are not a very big park to begin with. I am not sure what their half is so I could be way off here, but would this not ultimately hurt business to run the park and only allow so many in? How many guests would be ticked if they were turned away because the quota was met for the day? Six Flags is doing reservations, right? If that is anything like grocery pick up in my town, its easier for me to just get the foods myself than wait a week out to get anything.

So I guess what I am trying to ask all the smart knowledgeable people on here is if it would be cheaper to keep the park closed than to open to half crowds?

If they did want to dismantle at this time, from what the website shows, they have plenty of time if they keep at it. June has changed from showing hours to TBD..... Things that make you go hmmmmm.....

Maybe the app is different, I dont have it, but the website has had June posted for awhile. I would personally not use that as an indicator. But I have been wrong many times before and I will be wrong many times before I die.

Also this whole mask vs no mask is very The Sneetches.

Not a season pass holder this year but if I was one this solution is fine. They are extending the time you missed. That is fair. And in all honesty I wonder how many of those SP holders planned on going March-June 1st anyways? I know we do because the crowds are light and its such drive for us it makes sense. Now my next thought is about the prorated cost. I think that is kind to be offered. But I would rather purchase in November and get all the benefits for the year. That is not to say they will not give bonuses to the current pass holders, but it is really not that much more in November AND its on a payment plan. Either way, 2021 is getting purchased correct? Gamble on prorated cost or get November cost? I am a November cost gal.

IF they did open, I personally would be concerned about the masses. I feel like I have said this before....but I am not sure how safe it would be having all kinds of people from all over all congregating at SDC. Just from the turn styles to the cave is hard enough to navigate without bumping into someone on a busy day.

I suppose they could sanitize each ride before and after each use, but that would take some time. Waiting in line feels like it would be the pits, especially if we are all social distancing. Those queues are only so long and having 6 foot intervals would be rough. Also, would they need to do every other seat? No sitting with each other? Would there be a capacity limit? Dining inside?

So many questions! I do not relish being in the PTB shoes.
