Great TR.  SFMM used to be my home park years ago (before Tatsu), and I do miss it.

Naw, this fits in. Especially useful for those of us that has SFMM on the radar. I now know, get the quick queue for a quick visit.

Greatly depends on the day you are there.  I'm not surprised at the lines he encountered with it being a school holiday.  However if you're there during the week when school is in session you'll find most of the coasters will be walk ons or close to it.. Weekend, summer or holiday, the express pass is worth it. Weekday with school in session probably not needed.

which is why I used to love to go when the kids were in school.  :-)

Construction/Rumors / Re: SDC's 2018 Project(s) and Park Developments
« on: February 23, 2018, 03:13:20 PM »
SDC is running a contest to be the first to ride Time Traveler. Looks like the rides will be during the soft opening on the 13th.

There was also additional information about rider requirements. I'm not sure if they have posted this info before.
...a minimum of 51Ē in height in order to enter. Larger or taller guests (including guests who weigh more than 200 lbs., have a chest dimension of 52 inches or greater, or a 40 inch waistline) may not be able to ride.

Thanks for the link and the info!  I've had a few people ask me about restrictions so it's good to know what to say now.

BTW, anyone get any info or an invite to a media day yet?

3. Unlimited Digital On-ride Photos
This has really become popular at Cedar Fair parks and Disney parks.  You pay a price and then you collect as many digital on ride photos as you want during the season.  The best part about these is that you can almost instantly share them online.  This seems like a no-brainer to me.

This is really up to who they contract with to provide the photos.  SDC and Dollywood don't even use the same photo contractor.  Disney in particular built all of their photo programming, including software, online, etc completely on their own in house and don't share it with anyone.

I'm guessing that CF uses one of the several descendants of Kodak that rose up when Kodak went belly under (in large part because they didn't create a program like this, which Disney offered to them and they refused), but I don't know which one.  I doubt that it would be willing to share the whole system with SDC though.

Digiphoto, which is who SDC uses, is still transferring memory cards and doing everything manually.  Honestly I think the company is stuck in the 90's to early 2000's with the way they run their business and do the photos, and I had a number of fruitless discussions with them over it when I worked there.  As long as SDC sticks with them for their photos, then modern things like seeing photos online aren't going to happen, and especially not a multiple day or season pass for the photos.  Shoot, Digiphoto has even been resistant to having a one day deal that would include all of the photos, in spite of the fact that it's shown repeatedly to make a lot more money than what they are doing now.

Getting this caught up a bit and taking a hint from Swoosh and turning some of it into links to the vlogs of each that I've posted so far, as well as an update on trips.

This year is starting to shape up to be a big one, and it's very early in the planning stages still.

I leave Friday for a week in Florida:
Sat 1/13 Disney Springs
Sun 1/14 Animal Kingdom
Mon 1/15 Epcot
Wrap up of Animal Kingdom and Epcot
Tues 1/16 Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure
    Wizarding World of Harry Potter
Weds 1/17 Disney Hollywood Studios coming soon
Thurs 1/18 Magic Kingdom coming soon

And it was confirmed this last week that I'm going to Paris, France at the end of March.  Will be spending 4 or 5 days at Disneyland Paris in addition to going into the city. So extremely excited about the trip!

According to a blog that's being posted (see the Dollywood thread on TPR) the promotion is being axed as of the 2018 season. Wonder if SDC is following suit. I'm still waiting for the day they start charging for all parking at SDC.

I think it would be very very difficult for SDC to charge for all parking since a lot of their lots are off of public roads, not private ones.  It would mean far to many separate booths to man to collect at.  Unlike the vast majority of parks that one one access point to their one or two parking lots, SDC's are multiple lots off of public roads.  Not the same thing.

Looks like we'll be there Friday of opening weekend to pick up our passes and visit the park. Still waiting to hear when the media day will be for Time Traveler as well.

June?  Rats!

I'm excited that they're coming back.  Very much so.  But I was hoping (not realistically) that they would have started in March.  Gotta book a couple of flights back and forth from Denver and that would have been perfect.

I need suggestions....

I'm traveling to Ontario,CA (LA, Inland Empire) in a couple of weeks for work.  I may actually have an afternoon/evening off for a change on this work trip.

I want to get some coaster credits and I'm heavily leaning toward trying to hit Magic Mountain.  Any tips for that park?  or reasons I should do KBF instead?  It's about the same drive to both from where I'm staying.

It might look the same distance, but it's not.  From Ontario SFMM is 90 minutes or more, depending on traffic, while Knott's should still be under an hour.  That adds up in a hurry.  And LA traffic can quickly and easily turn those much worse.  With Knott's you'd have the options of taking some other major streets instead of the LA freeways if need be, but that won't happen with SFMM.  And it's not unusual for the 210 and 5 to get gridlocked bad (those are the main routes you'd take to SFMM)

I think that SFMM has the better collection of coasters, but if you're shooting for just an afternoon/ evening, you're going to be a lot more out of a trip to Knott's than you would trying to get up to SFMM

(plus there's the whole deal with schedules and what time the parks close on the days you're there)

I'm hoping to be but still ironing out details on season pass, transportation, and potential other trips.  :-)

None of the Eagles knelt all year.  Their QB openly talks about his he is blessed to be in that position (the starter recently got hurt)...and how he can wait to be a preacher when his playing time is done.  90% of the country was going for the Eagles because of that and/or is just tired of seeing Brady win.

You don't have to let a few players and/or stories influence your overall view of an entire league.  If an Eagles doesn't want to go to DC....good for's a free country.  The game was of the better games I've seen this season.  I've haven't watch much this year mostly because i've been too busy.

thank you!  Last time I checked Freedom of Speech was a very American patriotic value.  Thank God we live in a country where it's ok to dislike and disapprove of our President- as many of us (me included) took advantage of with the last one that was in office.

And the game was easily one of the best Super Bowls played. Absolutely fantastic game.

Looks very similar to what was the gold pass last year.  In fact, looking at their chart, it looks like they took away a few of the perks that were on the gold pass and moved them to the membership instead (such as the early entry and some of the purchase discounts)  and then added a few more.  The gold pass isn't quite the deal that it was in the past, though it's still a very good deal.

The odd thing is that the membership comes out almost $8 cheaper per year than the gold pass does.

The most I ever waited was 1.5hrs for it.  Iíd suggest going straight to Naívi River then since you will not want to wait very long for that short ride

I was told the River Journey wasnít worth any wait  ;D

We actually didnít even walk through Pandora because we only had about four hours in Animal Kingdom, most of which was spent eating supper or going from fast pass to fast pass.

I'd have to disagree with you on River Journey.  Very neat, absolutely gorgeous ride.  Is it worth a long wait?  No.  but I'd wait 30-45 minutes for it.  Only had to wait 15 for my ride (we were there early) and it was more than worth that.  You can see my video of it at:

of course if you haven't seen the movie then you'll miss some of what is going on with the ride.  And the video really doesn't do it justice.

As for 4 hours in DAK?  Really?  The only park you might get away with only 4 hours is Hollywood Studios, and even that's really not appropriate for it.  Thinking that 4 hours is worth visiting any Disney park is really silly- and, IMO a waste of money and time.

personally, as long as you can work in the rest stops and have a place to freshen up before hitting the parks I think the bus ride could be a lot of fun.  I know a number of schools in our area not far from SDC that have done busses down to Disney instead of flying.

We've had some visitors from Japan that actually really enjoyed the peanut brittle from Brown's Candy at the park.

The fudge was to rich for them.

perhaps some of the mixes from the Mill?

What was the European park that refurb'd and enclosed a shuttle loop?

Ah, here it is. Well done

That's different.

I was thinking it was a classic Schwartzkopf until it actually started the launch and crawled forward...
Same exact idea except built by Gerstlauer.  If you look at the photos on RCDB before they enclosed it, it looks almost like they copied Anton's old coaster design nearly exactly, but put in a different launch system.

I was reading the facebook comments from the story posted by my local news outlet.  It is mind-numbing how emotionally stupid people get over this stuff.

I ridiculous number of "I've never going again"..."Dolly gave in"...."This is why Branson is dying"...."what are they going to do next" .........a few "It's about time"

I does make sense to do it business wise....especially if they are going to copy the format for non-southern markets.

yep, people are ridiculous online.  And the truth is that most of them are full of poo.  They either didn't go to it anyways, or they'll be back next time they are in the area.

And the idea of Branson dying, when their numbers were up (again!) in almost every area.  It's like Yogi Berra- no one goes there anymore because it's to crowded.
