Construction/Rumors / Re: Tom Sawyer's Landing Revival?
« on: April 07, 2008, 06:36:24 PM »
^Officially? No, but unofficially it's pretty well near damned. I fairly sure it would come down last off-season, but I guess they're keeping it up until they have the ability to put something better in it's place. Maybe that area is slated for something in 2010? It would make sense. Either way, that thing probably needs to come down here in the next couple of years.

You probably don't need to resize it that small, I'll take a look at what the limits are set to and push them up a bit.

But yeah, as far as the bridges go, those have always been open, it's just that they've been separated from the huge rope maze above the wax works. Were you talking about the bridges or the actual rope maze before?

Yeah, the old rope maze was pure sweetness. It's never actually been closed to my knowledge, it just requires staffing in this day and age, and it's not up there on their priorities, so it's probably only open when there are staff around to work it. It's too bad it can no longer be a real part of the whole landing though.

Huh, I wouldn't have expected Scream! to be rough at all, I thought it was a pretty new ride, and as a B&M, it should keep it's quality for at least a good decade or so... I thought SF maintainence was getting better.

^Well it's not like there were any tremendous forces to throw you out of the car.  ::) Besides, this was before the age of intense regulations, restraints, and lawsuits out the butt.

Announcements / Re: Check Out The New Site

Okay, now it's truly almost done. I just need to fix a couple of bugs, finish the user panel, and put all of the content on the site into a database. It'll take a while longer, but if I get a few productive hours in during the next few days, I can get it done. We'll just see what happens though, I've got a few other projects to do as well, including painting my house.

SDC Memories/ Park History / Re: Random Stuff Round-Up
« on: April 05, 2008, 12:25:12 PM »
I have a few random things to bring up.  I was talking to my mom and she remembers visiting SDC within the first two or three years it opened (around 1960).  She only remembers a couple of details from the trip, but what she does remember is panning for gold.  Can anyone confirm that you could pan for gold as one of the first activities the park offered?  I've never heard that mentioned, so maybe my mom is mistaken.  (This may be a question for you, Old Guy!  :))

I remember hearing something about that; in fact, gold panning attractions have been around the park forever now, there's still one up by PK I believe.

Whatever hits your fancy man, it's all good. Just for kicks though, if you remember the bit about the old train station stairs and the remnants of the Gandy Dancers and the ferris wheel near the curly-que bridge, you might look around there while you're walking through and get some shots - just for us geeks.

Well it looks like FC will be getting Steel Lasso, a small Vekoma Jr. Invert for the 2008 season. Kinda weak for their 50th anniversary, but it's part of an overall move in a new direction for the park, and the ride fills a special void in their ride line-up.

is the big bubble "aquarium" really supposed to be fed by turning the wheels?

No, the wheels do nothing to the aquarium.  The bubble pattern is set on a timer that loops

So much wasted energy... You know, they could light half the park just by hooking up those wheel to a generator and letting the kids go at em'. As far as I've seen, the fact that the wheels have no effect on the bubbles does nothing to stop them from endlessly going at them.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / SDC's 50th Anniversary
« on: April 04, 2008, 06:19:50 PM »
50 years of 1880?

I'm sure the park has something grand up their sleeves for this, but I for one hope it doesn't involve pushing any major ride projects back. For the 50th, I envision them doing something big, but not ride-related; something more classic and old-school SDC, like a new section of craftsmen and shops, or a new Shanty-town like area...

SDC Memories/ Park History / Old Construction Photos
« on: April 04, 2008, 06:17:10 PM »
Does anyone have any old construction photos from SDC, or at least know where some are? Surely there are some shots of Wildfire going up out there, as well as Buzzsaw falls, but what about older rides such as the American Plunge, Wilderness Waterboggin, and others?

I've gotta start a construction photos area on the site to hold stuff like this, these types of photos just get better with time.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / One more reason to love SDC
« on: April 03, 2008, 06:48:24 PM »
Take a look at this topic over at the 1Branson forums -> http://www.1branson.com/forum/showthread.php?p=319892&posted=1#post319892

Apparently, SDC has been phoning various people about their experience at the park on opening day, when twice the expected amount of people showed up. They're actually spending the time and money to look into the issue and see what can be done to correct it.

Now, not to bash on other parks, but how many other parks give a rat's ass about their customers waiting in line? It's only a problem to them if they get too many complaints. As for SDC, their integrity and commitment to excellence just keep showing.

Construction/Rumors / Re: CC's 2008 Project

Here's a new video showing off a little more of the Roaring Falls area. It actually looks a lot larger than I thought, though the ride itself looks shorter everytime I see it. I can't help but wonder why they didn't go a bit further with the course after or before the drop... http://www.ky3.com/features/branson/17227774.html

Yeah, but the current theme could offer so much if the Herschends were willing to really take it out there. Imagine Roaring falls as a classic Victorian Shoot D' Chutes like what was built at the old World's Fairs; the boardwalk could host more than just basic carnival games, like street performers, side-shows, and special attractions and exhibits; main street could be expanded so that more of the park was an actual Victorian city...
