Construction/Rumors / Re: New ride concept survey

I have it from a good source that SDC has actually been toying with this idea for a long time, testing out various types for water cannons in the boat houses among other research. This ride is practically confirmed for the park. This source was also sure that this would indeed go in the Landing and that it would be built this year, not the next.

Hmmm...

Well, in any case, I'm really looking forward to this. I think the Splash Battle is only one part of this whole offering, which I expect to include a re-make of the buildings in the area hopefully with some new shops and thematic elements. Like Swoosh said, this is a very welcome re-establishment of a uber-favorited section of the park. It really is a win in all directions, though I'll still keep my nose up if they use plastic in the thematics. I really think they'll actually do a better job at theming it than some of us will assume at this point however - the concept artwork and description seem to show off a real attention to detail like we haven't truly seen since Wildfire. River Battle at DW was just a ride, but this I can see being a true experience all around. I'm looking forward to seeing Huck Finn back in the park.

From what some of you guys have said elsewhere, it sounds like they've started work on the 09' project smack dab in the middle of the Landing. Is this conclusive evidence that we'll be getting a G-Fighter? I don't see a woodie fitting in there... then again, I don't really see a big G-Fighter sliding in either, but anything can happen. Hell, maybe we're in for something totally different, surely we'll find out pretty soon.

The balloons and carousel closed today a fence will be raised around the area. I wonder what they are going to be opening next year?

Also the bottom right picture looks a lot like the carousel barn.

WHOA, what? Geez, that's a pretty big development. Can you divulge? Maybe in the other thread? We need to get some photos of this.

The concept art for the Splash Battle has eased my worries a bit. It looks like it will extend what they have already done in the area and even add in a bit of nostalgia by using re-introducing Huck Finn to the park. Talk about a win in all directions. Looks like we have a few years of excitement ahead.

Someone please provide some real details. I'm dying to know what's going on here. What are the concepts? What are the details? What are the descriptions? What does the artwork look like? Take a screenshot of it or something. It's not like they're really trying to keep this on the down-low, you can tell us what you were asked.

I really won't mind if this is indeed a Splash Battle. I still think DW's is a bit cheesy, but it works there. For SDC I think (and pray) that they'll spring for more realistic theming, and the Splash Battles in Europe have sported some pretty impressive theming. A whole Mississippi bog themed to Tom Sawyer would work sooooo well...

You know, getting everything after DW has tried it isn't so bad. They work out all the bugs for us, so by the time we get a given attraction, the company knows what they want to do to make it better.

Can you give us a link?

I told you guys this would turn up eventually - keep in mind that this may be for 2010 or later though, they would have had to plan this out more than two months in advance for it to be next year's ride.

Not I. Details?

You really can't make rash judgments about a park's attendance based off of one or even several visits, even during days that are supposed to be crowded. After all, look at SDC this year: the days that people expect to be packed are relatively light, yet other days have been completely swamped.

As far as getting new coasters though, they actually really need to add in another just to make up for the loss of 3 in the past two years. I'm sure some of the GP think the park is crashing.

It's a neat little experiment, but I would be even more excited about it if it didn't cut into the purpose of CC. I guess the purpose of this event is really about garnering local tourists, though I could see this being packed out with youth groups just like the Young Christian weekend.

I don't think this really appeals much to me personally - I love SDC for it's charm and quality, and I don't really want to see it with all this modernity tacked on. I imagine it'll feel kinda like a big christian camp, or at least like just another theme park. That's not to say it's a bad thing though, I'm sure other ride lovers and kids will enjoy it.

Thanks for the tip, Insider.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Wildfire

I'm pretty positive it's an IE issue, and it may have to do with a malicious program that's attatched itself to your browser. Or it may be caused by some sort of content blocker like parental controls or faulty ad/spyware blocking software. However, if you download Firefox, you won't have to worry about anything like this again.

Anyway though, great pictures anyone. Maybe I should try bringing out that photo contest again.

^We've run into this before. For some reason, certain browser settings block photo attachments, and there's not much we can do about it other than use photobucket where possible.

It's a great photo though. Was it one of the original PR images? It looks like it's been enhanced.

Has to be, what else could it be? Just traditional SDC recycling. Very neat.

^I think it depends on the ride ops.  I've had it both ways.  When there's no one in line we've been allowed to stay on the ride sometimes, but other times we've been told that we have to get off and go back through the queue.  This has happened at both SDC and SFStl.

This is true. There seems to be a chain-wide policy set up against re-rides without going through the line again, but sometimes it's not always followed through when there's only a handful of people and it's late at night. Wildfire's ops sometimes let people line-up at the exit after riding so that they can run in again to fill empty seats.

The European Coaster Club paid a visit to both SDC and CC recently. 54 Europeans spent an entire day at SDC which included one of SDC's famous luncheons and ERT on Powderkeg.

From their comments, they really enjoyed the park. Read them here -> http://www.coasterclub.org/trips/reports/2008/AA2008/day06/
CC comments are on day 5. It sounds like they really enjoyed it as well, though the ride op's on Wildcat were acting like dicks. That's probably the first time I've heard complaints about Herschend employees.

It sounds like Mark Shapiro may have paid a visit to SDC lately, though who really knows the validity of the story. I wouldn't be surprised if it were true however, as SDC is not only an outstanding park but also a major competitor to SFStL and a growing regional player overall. I really hope the visit rubs off on him the value of true overall quality, atmosphere, and abundant good-hearted fun vs. rides being the only offering at a park.

So is the parking lot done yet? Surely in a month's time they've been able to put the asphalt down.
