Random Talk / Re: Your Travels Thread (2020)

Are they at least theming the hand sanitizer as a sample of moonshine?

The citizens from back when would have had a blast with that!

I think I have heard somewhere by drinking sanitizer that it would clean the body out   :o

Drinking the methanol-tainted varieties would clean out the gene pool.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Going back to SDC
« on: July 17, 2020, 09:27:05 PM »
whatever actions SDC does, it is their choice.
SDC is not in Branson city limits, so whatever Branson decides to do( IF they can decide to do anything), SDC may or may not follow..

While everyone refers to SDC as "in Branson", it's not only not in Branson, it's not even in the same county.

When it comes to on-park prices, you're not just paying for the food. You're paying for not having to leave the park and have a two hour round trip to eat somewhere else.

I get that.

Meat prices have soared this year. Import restrictions, the 'Rona, panic buying... it's all part of it. Regardless, meat prices for restaurants are higher. Customers will pay that price.

HB is educating while the system focuses on schooling. They are not the same thing, at all.

I really appreciate your approach, HB. Your students are better off for it, than they would be memorizing dates and places without context just to pass a simplified multiple choice test.

And:

Absolutely nothing in that video makes me want to ride it.

I know I'm a "What would Miss Mary say?" curmudgeon, but that looks boring and without any relevant theming.

Other Parks / Re: What is open in Florida?

I don't know about parks, but Florida is shutting down hard, especially the Orlando area. National conventions have been cancelled because the venues are closed.

Excellent.

History must be factual, not a course in apologetics favoring one side or the other.

The reason? It would hurt someones feelings because of the Baldknobber history. I am surprised they have not removed it from Fire in the Hole as of yet. White men in hoods (in a historical sense) just dont do well in todays Zoomer standards.

Yeah, I'm just gonna stop you right there. Being a "zoomer" myself, there is a vast difference between the Baldknobbers and the Klu Klux Klan during that time period.

We live in an age where mobs are tearing down statues of abolitionists because they're outraged about slaveowners.

I wouldn't expect a careful academic examination of the differences between baldknobbers and klansmen.

C'mon... protestors painted swastikas on John Brown, fer cryin' out loud!

I remember knowing that metal detectors were coming, but it was shocking to be reminded.

 >:(

Opinions on the necessity of this will vary, but I refuse to pay to be treated like a criminal.

When we rode fire in the hole the guy putting us in line said they had done a bunch of work to the track and it was now very smooth on the drops. He wasn’t lying, it was quite a bit of difference. The ride looked and rode great. Hard to believe they would put work into it to just tear it down soon.

That's awesome news.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: Whoopie pies
« on: June 15, 2020, 12:24:39 AM »
Near as I can tell nobody has ever heard of a whoopie around these parts.

I never heard of them until I moved to northern New Hampshire in 2012.

Here, they're mostly made with Devil's Food cake-style cookies and Fluff. There are seasonal variations, like pumpkin spice.

I'm not into sugary things, so I really can't comment on what's good or not.

Anyone going to wear one of these masks?

I don't understand what people expected. Regardless of mine or anyone's personal opinions, this is what SDC has to do. They have to follow the current CDC guidelines, otherwise risk multiple lawsuits and a reputation of not caring for guest safety. I don't understand the outrage or the backlash when a large corporation where thousands of guests will be milling about together, had no other choice.

Why would a business whose customers are purely voluntary be at more risk than the "essential" businesses that have been open the entire time, with almost no restrictions?

Checking temps on people... lets see,,,  If its 90 degees outside, people ride the tram,  (hmm? tram - safe distance?).  then walk to turnstyles, wont most people be overheated and or sweating by then..??

A friend works at SIG in Exeter NH, and they do temp checks. He goes outside to smoke on his breaks, so he pegs the meter when he goes back in.

Same for my son-in-law, who is an engineer at a plastics manufacturing plant in Baltimore.

Both of them have to go sit in time-out before passing the temp check and being allowed in.
