Any ideas as to why several AP flumes are staged in the middle of the construction?  Not saying it means anything - just seems random.

They are currently raising telephone poles (4 up, at least 3 more in a pile) next to the AP lift hill.

To further put this to rest. I found this on one of the SDC FB groups.

QuoteI took a survey TODAY asking if I would be interested in a family coaster coming in 2029. This confirmed my beliefs this will be a thrill coaster. Family coaster will replace TNT

Those are for nets to go over the queue line under the track passing overhead.  Same with the ones already by Wildfire.

Quote from: hollijo on June 01, 2026, 01:20:29 PMI really wish this was something thrilling but it's not. Project 2027 is a DIRECT TNT replacement. This has been planned for the past 3+ years. Anyone who expects this to be on the same level of Time Traveler thrill wise is going to be disappointed. Obviously this will be marketed the entire family but this is not going to be a thrill machine or anything remotely close. It will be Thunderation's Mystic river falls with a first of its kind and some "family friendly" records broken. Herschened as a whole is pivoting entirely from Thrill to family and this will follow

The only "TNT Replacement" this ride will be is that they're both rollercoasters.  I guess you could make the argument it's replacing 1 for 1 but the REAL "TNT Replacement" is coming on 2029.  This ride was planned well before TNT decided to kick the bucket faster than expected.  TNT was expected to coexist with this new ride next season.

Has there been any significant progress since the last update?

tmstephe

I'm not sure about "significant" progress, but they are trucking in large loads of clean fill dirt and there is a heavy crane on site today. There is also a new wall being poured (in the previously seen cement forms) the entire length of Powderkeg's launch.

Swoosh, thanks for being the voice for reason amongst all these new users adamantly trying to convince us of something other than what's obvious.  I appreciate what you contribute to this forum.

As you guys keep saying, all the signs definitely point more toward thrill ride.  The main thing I keep wondering now is which will come first: Solid/irrefutable evidence arriving on site of what type of coaster this will be, or an official announcement from SDC with renderings/imagery of the ride?

Swoosh are you able to elaborate on what the issue is with Thunderation? What happened to make them shut it down before planned? How is it safe to operate this year but not next?

Swoosh

Everything comes back to liability and ROI.  I'm sure if the corporate accountants had their way it wouldn't even be open this season... but that would be quite the PR nightmare so this was the compromise.  One last season.

I'm still astonished Flooded Mine has managed to outrun the Grim Reaper for as long as it has... I was positive years ago it was next.

I wonder how long they'll leave Thunderation SBNO before tearing it down, considering they aren't in a rush to year down the original FITH.

I have no inside information, but I think the difference is visibility.  FITH is a large building in a "corner" of the park; TNT is clearly a ride visible from both Valley Rd and Time Traveler.  I think that makes a difference from a PR perspective.  I also imagine the 2029 project will need to go on the TNT side of the park for crowd management, unless they are really all in on expanding towards the resort, which makes sense but would take a lot of infrastructure work.

I always wondered what effect the cave has on TNT. It amazes me they built it so close. And now that Time Traveler is right up against it and it was mentioned that it is effecting the structure of TNT, I cant imagine SDC putting another coaster in the same spot. Also, they are apparently wanting to expand or redo the enterance so that could conceivably take some of TNT space. And also they may possibly use the area for back stage purposes.

orangesandpeaches

I could see something along the lines of Firechaser Express in TNT's spot, not terribly too intense but still big enough to write home about.
