Fire at the Park: Nov 16, 2008
« on: November 16, 2008, 09:40:32 PM »
A second fire broke out in Stone County, this one at Silver Dollar City.
A storage building behind one of the restaurants was on fire. No other buildings were damaged.
That blaze is also under investigation.

from KY3.com

Anyone hear about this?

Hmm, which restaurant? Glad it was only a storage building. I'm guessing this must have been near the mill/candy factory, because that's the only main storage buildings I know of. Hope this doesn't hurt the park too much, food is one of their main revenue sources, and they're already having a tough time.

News story here btw -> http://www.ky3.com/news/local/34557589.html

^No kidding!  I really hope it doesn't hurt the park much and that they have good insurance.  That last thing they need right now is major property damage in any form.

Any SDC historians know how many fires there have been there through the years? It's a wooden town using lots of open flames, so it's always a risk.

And of course, we really have to know: has there ever been a fire in FitH?  ;)

I do know of another fire...

It was in the shoe room of the cave... yes the cave was on fire once...

I'll have to get the details from longtime guide R.S. and get back with you....

I remember a fire that took out the first candle shop in the late 60's ,early 70's. That was when the built the fire station off the employee parking lot.
SDC has always made a great past to remember

No way! Not the big skillet? I don't know what the park is going to do without that, we'd better be getting another one soon.

Here's a picture of the Skillet being re-built for 2009's season ... Pretty impressive structure... I guess if we can't have a ride we can have a great big new skillet! :-)  And a new room opening in the Cave.. SO excited to see that tomorrow.

Neat, thanks for the info. At least we have something to look at this year. Maybe I should request an SDCFans construction tour. WOF gets to show off a new wooden coaster, but at least we still have better food!

Have tried to get an "off season" tour the last 5 years and always get the same response of "we do not allow media in the park during the off season"

You'd never suspect there was a fire.  The new skillet facility (faskillety) looks great.
