Wow, talk about practically having the park to yourself! Did they keep any of the non-weather related rides going such as the Train, or Fire in the Hole, or even the Cave?

rubedugans

Cave, FITH, FM, GM, RB, yes, train, coasters- no

My brother went yesterday. He said no lines at all for the rides. Rode everything 3-4 times & did the cave. He was so early that when he went to preferred parking & no one was even at the shack. I texted & talked with him some of the day yesterday, we walked in FITH together & he got right on. And listened to the FM song. He took a gal he has been dating. First time she has ever been to a amusement park! What a great place to go for ya'r fist park, she loved it! He said it sprinkled off & on but never really rained hard. Glad they had a good time.

I agree...Over the last few years we have shown family members and friends around the park who drove all the way out from Colorado to see SDC...It's almost like it gave us purpose...Our family and friends told us that we should be SDC tour guides...The only suggestion...they told us to slow down...

My grandson took a trip to SDC with a group from his school Wednesday, a reward for doing well in classes so far this year. When I took him to SDC for his first trip in June, he vowed to ride all the rollercoasters. I took him straight to Powderkeg, and told him if he could ride it, he would be able to ride anything on park. He loved it, but it scared the c--p out of him! Ha! That day in June, I could not get him to ride even Flooded Mine or Lost River! So on his school trip Wednesday, he got up the nerve to try out some of the other rides and did get on Flooded Mine and Lost River. He loved them both. So, this grandpa was glad to hear about him trying some of the old rides I used to work at. He is in middle school, and all the kids did all day was run from ride to ride. No arts and crafts...even with fall festival going on. No shows, because that would slow down getting on more rides. Oh well, at least he tried some different rides! The kids all had a great time!  :)

ok! went tot he city sunday the 18th.

got there in time for the opening ceremony. had several older citizens.  The bald eagle was there from the birds of prey demonstration.  n ice touch!

watched the 1st lumberjack show on main street, only lasted 10 minutes ??? little disappointed with that.

walked around checked out the booths and headed for red gold, got our spot to watch the 2nd lumberjackshow at 11:30..  started thundering and sprinkling and we headed for cover!

went to dockside grill for a philly, but no roof over the eating area. I thought there was! so we headed for rib shack, NOW it is raining. we ate and sit there for a bit, decided to head across the way to listen to cajun connection.. Radar showed a big storm headed in. sit there for 20 minutes and listened to the LOUD cajun show. sorry not a fan of cajun connection ;D

that round blew through and we headed uphill! checked radar, decided to give up, went by knife shop, looking for a nice 4 inch fixed blade... still looking.

Hit the leather shop and picked up one of those 200.00 jackets opn sale for 40.00.  NICE!!  thanks to whoever mentioned that fact last week. love the coat..  Looked at full length heavy coats, BUT big tag sadi MADE IN CHINA, I put it back on the hanger, nice coat, decent price.....BUT.............

another lull in rain, we headed for car and went back to town, at that point it had been raining for over 2 hours!.

Nice quick trip review Sanddunerider!

It's good to hear that the rain didn't "wash out" your day. Having the bald eagle at the opening ceremonies was definitely a nice touch! I wonder if the weather is what accounted for the short lumberjack show? Either way, it's great to have these new shows around. I prefer sitting out in the open areas when dining, but I totally agree that raindrops will change those plans fast. I love the deals on those leather jackets! I hope they will continue those deals in time for my trip in October.

All in all, it sounds like you had a nice day trip. Thanks for the review!  ;D

sanddunerider

you bet,.  NO the rain had no affect on the 1st lumber jack show, they had 2 "races" and it was over in 10 minutes!

we had fun, 1st time we have been rained out in over 2 years, not bad for people who avcerage 1 trip per month all year long.....

Zephon

You're lucky you were there today instead of yesterday.  It rained all day long yesterday and they canceled the Echo Hollow show at 4, two hours before show time.  That's the first time I've seen them cancel that early.
"Why do they call them Wild Women?"

sanddunerider

yes, i talked to some of the vendors, the knife maker on the square said very low attendance on saturday because of BAD weather..  said they quit counting people at about 3000, ..  in the afternoon nobody could be seen unless they were headed into HH! going to the cars.

My trip was good, even with rain!

Its all good, i will be back 2nd weekend of october.!

Just finsihed up a two day stay at the Park, Sept 15th and 16th.  Had a wonderful time.  Park is Fall Festival to the max.  Many more crafts people than usual; as I remember anyway. This was a last minute trip with my 7 year old daughter as the rest of the fam was in school.  So we burned it to Branson.  Walked on FITH, FM, Thunderation, and the Grand Expo rides all day.  Went in early to eat breakfast at the Mill on Friday, kids eat free and pass holders 20% off equals great deal.  We were the first vehicle on the lot at about 8:15, never had that happen, but was kind of cool. Lumberjack show was amazing, never having seen anything like it before, especially the climbing part.  Lots of personal attention from citizens with the low crowds.  Got to the FM about 10 and were the first and only, rode twice and could have kept going as no one waiting.  Very talented guest artist this year.  The chalk art is amazing and the girl very friendly.  Can't say the same for the sand castle dude, never acknowledged our greeting and another lady asked him a question and he kind of grunted a reply. Does not fit the profile...however his work was very impressive.  Visited with Danny and the 2 Greg's at the homestead, always a joy.  Sorghum press running, when the old mule would cooperate.  Checked out the 2 sisters at the candy factory making Black walnut brittle, they are quite a pair.  Enjoyed the Mine for a late lunch and back to Thunderation for 3 more turns.  No line about 3 PM.  Visited with Terry and called it a day.  Can't wait for October will be there the week the 16th.  Oh, btw, I have 2 tickets left that expire on the 9/26 if anybody wants them.
