So it is the off season and we are all waiting for the park to open again. I have dug deep into my old employment files and have pulled three of the SDC company newsletters from 1983 for you to look at: The April 15th Whats Happening featured a big article on welcoming back everyone for the new season and it discussed the winter improvements on park. The May 27th edition spotlights some of the entertainers on park, and if you look closely, you will see photos of some of the people from the past that you hold dear in your hearts, and if you look very, very close you will see a few faces that are still at SDC today. The July 8th edition features a big article on Fire in the Hole, and discusses Echo Hollow employee discounts for the dinner show. Read the letters and notes of thanks on the page, interesting tid bits there. Enjoy:

Click on the Whats Happening scans to enlarge so you can read the words and view photos better. If you like these, I'll post more from other seasons. Let me know what you think.

The price for those season passes was so low at the time because there were not all those expensive multi million dollar rollercoasters to pay for. I think when I started working at SDC in '78 admission was under $8 for an adult ticket. I think it was just under about $10 when I left employment in '84. Times have changed. I bet that the park cannot get away with paying only $2.35 per hour like they paid me when I was a 15 year old kid working in the restaurants back in '78! HA! (I thought I was making good money at the time, and, really, I was.)  :D

Going to clear my Flickr site this week of the photos posted over winter. Take a quick look at these What's Happening newsletters from 1983 before they are gone!

I remember the $10 admission!  And the Horsecreek band?  Gosh, I forgot all about them!

Wow, back then I could visit Silver Dollar City five times for the same price that I am paying a full tank of gas today. Excellent stuff Junior! ;D
