Always wanting to try new things, over Christmas vacation we headed out to see what Copper Run was all about. It is a fairly new distillery about 10 miles North of Branson in Walnut Shade MO. Having lived in StL for the past 30 yrs, I have visited the BIG brewer there, and several smaller craft brewers/ distillers. I first heard about this place while on the Landing in Branson, and became curious. Upon our arrival on the frosty morning of the 27th, we were met by Jim Blansit (owner) inside the tasting room of the unassuming building. He was obviously hard at work heating the stil, but took time to come and greet us, and brought us back to the "works" for a tour. We were able to see the whole process from corn to still to aging- start to finish. Jim was a great guy, and was not shy to educate anyone on the workings of a distillery.
After the tour, we were able to sample their moonshine (corn whiskey), aged whiskey, and rum that uses the water from their well on site. I have tried many different varieties, both cheap and expensive over the years, I am by no means an expert, however I do know good from bad, and these was good!

I know this place will not be for everyone, but they do have good products at a good price. If it is your kind of thing pay them a visit, you won't regret it!
From their website:
"Copper Run Distillery is the first legal distillery in the Ozark Mountains since prohibition ended in 1933. The distillery got its fresh start in 2008 using century old techniques that give Copper Run's moonshine, whiskey and rum its mature flavors. Copper Run revolves around local goods and artisan merit based on dedication and passion to create small batch excellence. We aim to create a long history of distinct accomplished character to enjoy amongst family and friends for generations to come."[/size]

I hope to give this place a visit on my next journey to SW MO. I don't drink and drive, but I can taste, swirl, "chew", spit and drive!
