This is really interesting....we know it isn't the size of the park, the rides, or the "wow" factor of SDC that is driving this poll. We die-hard SDC fans know what it is....it has to be the atmosphere...the "mystique" that keeps us coming back year after year...it is something indefinable. A return to the "good old days" - the family-safe place where you aren't afraid to let your kids roam alone - the fascination of watching craftsmen practicing their almost-lost arts - the smells of asphalt, fresh-baked cinnamon bread, and pan-fried potatoes - the friendliness of the "citizens" of SDC, who really DO seem to care about the visitors who come to their very special little town every day....

In comparison, we shouldn't be able to compete against the Disney empire, Cedar Point, or Six Flags....we are pretty small, in an out-of-the-way place, and some of our buildings/rides are aging. There must be something more that makes people vote for SDC over the more well-known theme parks...

I think this poll shows that Americans are starved for wholesome goodness and a place that has something refreshingly "different" to offer every member of the family. A slower-paced atmosphere where you can escape the frenzied and frantic lives most of us live. A place that still genuinely holds the values of faith and family, despite political correctness. SDC is a heart-warming place to rediscover the meaning of "family entertainment." What could be better? Way to go, America....you're catching on.....we've known SDC was #1 for years! Thank you, Herschend family for giving us so many special memories....please don't EVER change the unique atmosphere of SDC that we love so much!

I really haven't been able to get caught up in this. Has anyone ever heard of 10best.com before this? They have a measly few thousand facebook fans, meaning their reach can't be very big. The reason SDC is #1 is probably because we're the only ones paying attention to this poll. If the fans of disney or cedar point started weighing in, SDC would be sunk pretty quick. It's just a ploy to drive traffic to their site by getting parks to appeal to their fan bases, and SDC took the bait when they posted this on their FB wall. If this were reader's digest or something I'd be more inclined to care.

But I guess it's good publicity anyway, for however many people actually see it.

Look at it this way: whether the poll draws from a big enough sampling or not, the result will make somebody take notice somewhere. If nothing elese, it will further demonstrate to HFE how important the City is to its loyal guests. We don't want them to forget that! But other folks are being exposed, too. I don't know whether the other parks have notified their customer base about the poll or not, but other people are voting, and they may be inspired to think that there is something about SDC worth looking into.

Frankly, I don't want SDC to become as popular as DW or DL--it would have to change far too much to accomodate that size of crowds and some of those kinds of people. SDC would essentially have to become DW to be that popular. BUT just think what HFE could do with the revenue that a relatively low-impact additional 1% influx of DW visitors might bring in. . . . .

Dollywood is currently in 5th place. You can vote for any other park and see their ranking and then remove your vote.
