Ready for another trip down memory lane? The photos from the mid-1970's on my Flickr account are from the old "Silver Dollar City Official Guidebook" published about 1976. See the Rainmaker, Grandfathers Mansion with both a roaring waterfall and a ticket booth in front of it, Huck Finn's Hideaway when it was still known as "Herman the Hermit's Treetop House," the old float trip, the FIRST funnel cake booth, the Ozark Marketplace as it used to look, and several other shots. If you were born in the 1980s or 1990s, the photos here are of a SDC you never knew as a kid...it's all gone...enjoy!                    http://www.flickr.com/photos/juniordugan

We will have to continue taking a look at the past until the new 2012 season opens in mid-March! :)

What was the Patent Office?  meaning what was in there, I guess I never ventured in when I was a boy.
Cant help but noticing that the Funnel cake place has no roof.  Bet they had to move fast when it started raining.

When I first visited the park as a kid in 1970, there were several buildings that were themed in antiques and made to look as if they were really occupied, but other than that, they were for nothing but theming, and giving the feel of a small town. Examples: There was a Barber Shop located in the building that houses the specialty shop that sells things with a "Holy Bible" theme next to Mountain Woodcarvers that in this period of the early to mid 70s.There were dummies dressed as a customer and a barber. The town jail,as  you well know is another such building that still survives for photo ops.  The Patient Office was the same thing. There also was a bank and a mayor's office that were dressed building fronts that you could look in the window and see furniture and decorations of the 1880s period. By the time I came back for a visit in 1977 the Patient Office had been converted to the funnel cake shop. In part of the 1979 season...I would WORK there! The little toll booth office next to the candy shop is another example of something done just for theming.

Thanks for the photos! I've heard about the Grandfather's Manson waterfall, but I'm way too young to have ever seen it. Thank you!!

I have this book too and never noticed the Funnel Cake photo in it.  It's funny how the current day building is right next to it in the photo (and the Candy Factory is peeking through the porch).

Are you sure about that?
I was born in 1987, and I remember the waterfall for many years.

I don't think I remember it. Maybe I saw it and it didn't sink in....which is a shame. :(

I'd like to thank everyone for their positive comments about the old pictures. I have PLENTY more, which I will continue to share with you over the next several weeks until the season opens and we can concentrate on 2012 action.  :)
