I have been thinking about a roadtrip to wichita to expierence the Cowtown Museum, I want to go see the Diamond "w" show on sat nite, and do Cowtown on Sunday.

Has anybody been there? have any suggestions?  liked it? Hated it?

thanks

Junior

I visited Wichita last spring and was impressed with the nice city parks they had. One park near downtown featured a lake with paddleboats, and a train ride.

On my trip last year I got as close as the parking lot, but at the time, I was at the end of being in a wheelchair due to the broken ankle I sustained, and nobody wanted to push me through the museum/attraction! So none of us actually went in. However, the city of Wichita or the state of Kansas, whomever maintains the site, have done an excellent job and I would reccomend going through. If I make it back to Wichita, I'm going through, even if I go alone!

that was my thought also.  I found the site last year and just ran out of weekends to go.

The 1 big thing i dont like about the site is no reference to close by motels/hotels/restaurants.  i realize they probaly want you to eat on site. But i am not sleeping in the parking lot!!  LOL.

and with my schedule, and the dinner show on sat nite, i would have to lay over for sunday to see the "museum"  i think it will be fun!!..

And junior. IF your still in your wheelchair,? and want to go.. CALL ME!!  i will push you around anytime!!  i bet we could survive!!

Found an offbeat article in the local press a few months ago...a tourist from Arkansas wanted to have his picture taken at the hangman's gallow tree, he put the noose around his neck and then...slipped and fell!   YUP, he almost strangled to death, came pretty darn near close to it, before his wife and park officials were able to assist him. Don't reach or climb up and grab the noose and put it around  your neck if you visit Cowtown!  :)

Haven't been there, but we would love it.  I recommend the Underground Salt Museum (http://www.undergroundmuseum.org/index.php) in Hutchinson hands down.  That's where we ended up on our Wichita trip.

Haven't been to the Cowtown, but when I was a kid in the early 1960's, my family took a trip to Joyland.  We just lived about an hour away at the time.  I remember the roller coaster and having a good time there but not much else about it.
