the "STORM OF EPIC PROPORTIONS" has finally arrived in Kirksville as the snow fall has really ramped itself up within the last hour.

We've got around 7 inches on the ground here now.

We have 15 inches now, and it's coming down pretty thickly still.  It'll pack really well for snowballs and snowmen, but the temperature is going to be too low for a while.

Here in Branson we started out with about 2"of sleet, but it has now changed over to snow.  Coming down pretty hard but accumulation is only up to a little over 3" so far.  Everything is pretty well shut down, and not much in the way of traffic.

We missed the sleet - it was just a drizzle all day and it hasn't stopped snowing.

Just rolled across the screen that "the city of Neosho closed to all non-essential personnel."  An entire city closed. Wow.

Didn't turn out to be so bad here in Norman. We just got about 6-8 inches with heavy sleet underneath. I feel fairly sure they're going to attempt to open the university tomorrow.  ::)

MoDOT Closing I-70 in Boone, Cooper and Callaway Counties
Travel Throughout Most of the State Is Not Advised

JEFFERSON CITY - The Missouri Department of Transportation is closing I-70 in Boone, Cooper and Callaway counties due to whiteout conditions.  It's unknown how long the closure will last.

MoDOT and the Missouri State Highway Patrol are advising people not to travel.  Most state highways are covered with snow making travel dangerous.  Already some areas of the state have received up to 12 inches of snow, with more accumulations expected.

"This is not a good time to be on the road," MoDOT Director of System Management Don Hillis said.  "Almost all of the state is covered with snow and some areas are receiving ice, making some roads impassable.  Please stay home if you can."

MoDOT is coordinating its emergency response operations with the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the State Emergency Management Agency and other partners.

If you do have to travel, MoDOT urges you to plan ahead, take your time and know what you're up against by checking local news sources and the department's Traveler Information Map.  The map gives drivers an up-to-the-minute view of road conditions for major Missouri highways. Conditions for major routes across the state are color-coded to give visitors the information they need at a glance.

Travelers can also call MoDOT's toll-free number, 888-275-6636, to get road condition information.

Also heard earlier on the weather radio that I-44 was closed in Okla at the MO/OK state line.
