Well, it may not be new, but I've never seen it before.  It is called  "50 Days-50 Years of Memories". It was sold in the HH. It features a series of editorials published by the Springfield News-Leader.  This book is different than the hardback photo book "50 Years of Making Memories." It is softcover and only costs $4.65. It has a lot of different pictures (some inaccurately labeled..ex. a picture of Wildfire next to an article about PK). But also some interesting tidbits of information.  Including the following, "Hugo...moved to Chicago, studied engineering and fell in love with a Danish librarian, Gudrun. The two were married in the 1920's but their life together would be brief.  Shortly afrter the arrival of their son, Peter, in 1934, Budrun was diagnosed with terminal cander.  She turned to her friend Mary Rinker Waggoner for help looking after Peter.  Mary was divorced and had a son, Jack, who was only a couple of years older than Peter.....Two years after Dudrun's 1937 death, Hugho married Mary and adopted her son, Jack."

I picked up the book last week, and have enjoyed looking through it.  I'm a little disappointed that many of the pictures seem to be stock SDC images, but, like you I found some interesting tidbits I hadn't seen before.  I've also noted one error that many casual readers probably wouldn't notice.  In one of the sidebars the article talks about Powderkeg, but the photo is obviously Wildfire!   :D

Could anyone post a few shots of the cover or a photo or two of the inside of the book? I'm interested in getting one, too...just for curiosity sake.

I haven't been succesfull uploading photos to this site yet (they are all too big). But here is a copy of the cover of said book. http://www.flickr.com/photos/55890907@N03/5252989228/

There's another over-sized 50th book (too large to scan) that was available to employees only.  I got one for me & tinaalsgirl, this past summer.  That makes the total 50th books/magazines to 4.  The Newsleader published the wrong photo in the full size ad in the paper, as well.  We all got a laugh at it & wondered if it was their fault, or SDC's ;)

Wow, a total of 4 special books for the anniversary. I've got two of them...the one that ran in the Missouri Life issue that was distributed during the anniversary weekend, and the Springfield News Leader version that cost about $35 or $40. I am VERY jealous of you for being able to obtain the EMPLOYEE version...How I wish I could get one, too! This little book currently on sale at the Hospitality House is one I would like to have as well. If anyone can get a copy of it or the employee version that you can get for me, I'll be glad to pay for copies. Send me a private message and I'll send someone a check! Thanks! In the meantime, if anyone can post a few shots of the employee book or of the book now on sale at the HH, I'd love to see them. Thanks for the cover shot in the above posting! Can anyone explain the differences in these books, and what makes each unique?
