Gambling in Branson?

Years ago when Showboat Branson Belle was being built on the shores of Table Rock, there was a strong rumor going around Branson that it was the Hershend's attempt to have a facility ready to go (with just a little modification) in case legalized casino gambling ever came to Branson. Just a few years ago there was a push...a strong one too...to put a casino in Rockaway Beach near Branson. That could have changed the face of Branson forever. SO DOES GAMBLING BELONG IN BRANSON/SDC/SHOWBOAT BB??? Sound off, troops! Could the SDC Saloon be a venue for gambling if it was legalized in the area? Lets hear from you...

I didn't think having it in Rockaway Beach was such a bad idea, you couldn't see it from Branson but it would further hurt Bransons volatile hotel industry.
As I understand the Hershings were very opposed to the gambling and vocal about it.

NO

And if I recall correctly, Pete Herschend was a big force in the fight to keep gambling out of Branson.

Gambling belongs in Branson, as much as Sponge Bob belongs in Silver Dollar City.  :P

Yeesh, there are so many places that people can go to throw away their money and have nothing to show for it.  The Branson area has so many ways to create memories that will last long after the money has been spent.  So a big NO from me.
Vote to end 2020!

Plus I think people should come to Branson because they want to enjoy the Ozarks, not because they want to get rich quick.

Build a casino, and then you will receive all of the rift raft that comes with it.  :-X

History Buff

Tally me up with a no from my family - both immediate and extended.

So what do you think about the old rumor I mentioned at the top of the thread...I was told about the same time the Showboat BB was being built that several of the larger hotel project like Raddison and Chateau on the Lake were built in such a way to accomodate a casino floor, too! Is it all "bunk" or do you think that a big company publicly will say "no" to a casino, but prepare for one in case the issue was passed by voters? Does that make good business sense? You know if casinos came to Branson, those who were prepared and only had to make minor modifications would be the first to have the ability to cash in on something like a casino. Your thougts...

I would highly doubt , granted the only time it has come up is in Rockway beach but there was so much opposition against not to mention the Herschends were leading that campaign. Now you could say it was for selfish reasons but I would do it just because of the values that put in there enterprises. Otherwise you would probably see beer at SDC by now.
