Very sad ending.  Who do we have to hold up to our kids that can compare to Roy Rogers and Dale Evans?

Junior

Ditto what's said above. I never had a chance to go through the museum. I heard it's packed with all things Roy and Dale, so there should be something for everyone at the auction. I remember when Boxcar Willie died and his stuff went on the auction block, there was alot of stuff that made it into the hands of "regular folks." I even saw some of Boxcar's personal items sold in a flea market booth at the Apple Tree Mall. Things were reasonably priced, too.

who?

Only Joking, don't worry. Roy Rogers/Leonard Slye was a great man. But with his most recent work being that of playing himself in a sitcom for a few episodes in 1983, It is probably pretty difficult for the owners to warrant enough of an income to pay the bills for someone that draws a crowd from the 1930's-late 1950's. being 60+ years removed from his  most recent sitcoms does place a large time between the shows airing and present day. Though syndication has kept him alive long enough for youngin's like me to learn about him, this is not the case for most people. I am a child of syndication, Laurel and Hardy, The Three Stooges, Abbott and Costello, Leave it to Beaver, Beverly Hillbillies, Andy Griffith, Dick Van Dyke, Gilligan's Island, Munsters, Addams Family all were well before my time, yet that was ALL I watched as a kid. Unfortunately not many like me are out there. And this is a trend that I believe will continue, we will eventually see the absence of other Branson mainstays that will join many other past Branson spots so in memorium of the Museum, and Roy and Dale's legacy...

Happy trails to you, until we meet again.
Happy trails to you, keep smilin' until then.
Who cares about the clouds when we're together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.
Happy trails to you, 'till we meet again.

Some trails are happy ones,
Others are blue.
It's the way you ride the trail that counts,
Here's a happy one for you.

Happy trails to you, until we meet again.
Happy trails to you, keep smilin' until then.
Who cares about the clouds when we're together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.

Happy trails to you, 'till we meet again.

^ Yeah, I am similar in that a watched a bunch of older shows like that when I was a kid, too.  It seems like you watched those shows a bit more than I did, but I can still see where you're coming from.

Here is the letter that was posted on thier web site late last year....

Special Announcement from Roy Rogers Jr.

I have been personally agonizing over how to start this letter. I guess I will start by saying thank you. Thank you for the years of love, support, prayers and loyalty to the Rogers Family. You, the fans, and our Board of Directors, are the ones who have kept our family's museum going for over 42 years. It has been a wonderful ride. After millions of visitors and countless stories of what Roy and Dale have meant to you, the Board of Directors have voted to close our doors of the Museum at the end of 2009. This has not been an easy decision. Many very emotional and financial issues have been addressed by all of us, as you can well imagine.

The decision to close the Museum has come after two years of steady decline in visitors to the Museum. A lot of factors have made our decision for us. The economy for one, people are just not traveling as much. Dad's fans are getting older, and concerned about their retirement funds. Everyone is concerned about their future in this present economy. Secondly, with our high fiscal obligations we cannot continue to accumulate debt to keep the doors open. This situation is one I have not wanted to happen. Dad always said- "If the museum starts costing you money, then liquidate everything and move on." Myself and my family have tried to hold together the Museum and collection for over 15 years, so it is very difficult to think that it will all be gone soon.

What will happen to Roy Rogers, Jr and his family? For those of you that have heard I am retiring, nothing could be farther from the truth. My company, Golden Stallion, and its show tribute to Roy and Dale, will continue. I plan on taking the show to another venue in Branson. We are looking for space now. The show will also be available to travel around the country and take the message of Roy and Dale wherever we travel. I feel that this country needs the message that Roy and Dale always put forth, not only in their professional lives, but in their private lives as well.

The Museum's last day of operation will be December 12th. We want everyone to have the opportunity to visit the Museum one last time to see the collection in its entirety. This will be your last chance to see Roy and Dale's collection. Tell your friends and encourage them to come, before we close. This will be your final chance!!

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Remember, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans will live forever in our hearts and minds, and will continue to ride across the silver screen through their movies. Every time you think of Roy and Dale, that warm feeling you have always felt, will always return.

Watch our website for further announcements and special dates.

I leave you all with Dad's favorite saying- Good bye, Good luck, and may the good Lord take a likin' to ya! See you in Branson, or on the road.

Love to all of you!
Happy Trails.

History Buff

Ah, at least part of the collection - some significant pieces - should be in the Cowboy Hall of Fame.

There were some great values taught in their old shows and in the their kids club.

I'm not exactly in the right generation - my dad is - but we were able to tour the museum, and it was pretty personal.  I was surprised how much of the movie stuff they were able to retain in their personal collection.  I guess they kept most of the control of their own movies and projects.

Does anyone have an update on how the auction went? What is to become of the property they used for the museum? I hope that some of the items in the museum made it to the hands of people who will preserve portions of the collection. Many years have passed, but I feel sometime in the future another cowboy craze period will occur, and then...people will be hungry to see some of Roy and Dale's stuff again.

I do know I saw that Dusty is performing at another venue, as his letter suggests; I think it was at the Lodge (Roy Clark's old place).

Yeah, Roy, Jr. and Dusty were both slated to perform in a show together at the Mickey Gilley Theater this summer. It is a 10am show. Joey Riley, Gilley's musician and comedian, has an afternoon show, I think at 2pm. Gilley himself does the night time show at the theater at 8pm. Days of performance are different for each show, so anyone interested will want to contact the theater for more info.

Here is what they are doing with the building.....

"DIANA — The People's Princess" to Open at the New Branson Exhibition Center

Already experienced by adoring audiences around the world, this blockbuster exhibition opens Thursday, July 1, 2010 – just in time to commemorate Princess Diana's 49th birthday. Centrally located at the former Roy Rogers Museum on Green Mountain Drive, the exhibition at the new Branson Exhibition Center will give area visitors and residents alike an opportunity to experience an in-depth look into one of the world's most intriguing personalities — as told through the images and objects which help reveal her fascinating story.

The exhibition features a broad array of artifacts and images from signature periods throughout her life, and begins in the exhibition center's 300-seat theater with a 15 minute video developed with the guidance of the Smithsonian Institute to give attendees a dramatic introduction to the rest of the exhibition. The self-guided tour takes guests through a series of zones, each dedicated to a different time in Princess Diana's life, featuring state-of-the-art videos throughout the exhibit.

One of the main highlights of the exhibition is the display of more than a  half dozen of Princess Diana's actual gowns from various times of her life—giving visitors an intimate, up-close look at her own distinct sense of style. Visit www.princessdianabranson.com

It was just here at Disney at the old Virgin Records location.  I didn't go, but some people I spoke to said they liked it.
