Junior

I know that a few "insiders," that is, current SDC "citizens" are members of the SDCFans.com, and I was wondering if anybody can tell me what the status is of Ron Martin, who for decades worked at Marvel Cave. Last I heard it seems he was in cave management. He wrote the Official Guide To Marvel Cave booklet that was sold for years and years at the Hospitality House. I have not seen that booklet for sale in recent years when I've been on park, and wonder why that is? I always remember him as being a nice guy, and a fixture at the cave. How is he, where is he, and what's he up to now? Thanks for any input here. I'm just curious.
"Howdy there folks! My name is Junior Dugan, and I'll be drivin' your diving bell!"

I believe he teaches at College of the Ozarks and visits Marvel Cave from time to time. A new 2009 version of the Marvel Cave Guide is available in the Hospitality House.

I just picked up his book yesterday at HH. It was a great little read, with some info I hadn't heard before like the Baldknobbers throwing a guerrilla down into the sinkhole and his wife coming 20 years later looking for his remains while the guano was being mined. There's a picture of Ron in that book that looks fairly recent, although I noticed the first edition was dated 1974. I wouldn't have known the book was first published that long ago had I not seen that. This is a newer edition now as it has the hot air balloon flights from the 80's covered in it.

I have the yellow covered version from around 82-83.

Ronald Martin was at one point the director of the career center at COTO

These were on the cave counter in HH. There was also a DVD. First time I had seen them there.

BTW check you PM when you get a chance.
