General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: 2021 Crowds/Trip Reports
« on: May 19, 2021, 03:17:31 AM »
Be aware that while SDC and many US places are probably not going to require proof of vaccination, many places around the world are if you plan to travel. THE NHS app here in the UK is going to be used as a vaccine passport. And to go to concerts and sporting events and all you will have to show at the least a recent (72 hours) negative covid test or your vaccine passport to be allowed in. There have been talks here of needing that to be allowed into pubs but so far that has not come into play although you still have to give contact details when you go... at least for another month.

And Europe is following suit with the same requirements. If you don't show proof of full vaccination, you will be required to quarantine when you arrive.

I know that most people in the US do not travel internationally - especially those who are antivax - but just be aware of what is going on in the rest of the world should you want to travel internationally

I was actually going to try to come visit my Dad in Detroit and then drive to Springfield, MO to see my friends as the flights were pretty cheap, but that is not going to happen due to having to test before (even though I have had one of the shots) and quarantine and test when I'd return for at a minimum of 5 days with 2 tests required. The testing costs have to be paid out of pocket for travel. The testing costs would be more than the flight costs... so just don't plan to go back to the US any time soon

We were there Friday the 14th with capacity limits still in place.   It was pretty tough getting in to see any shows.  You needed to be in line at the Opera House an hour before each show if you expected to get in.

I was wondering how they were going to distinguish vaccinated from non.  I guess that is the answer, they won't  ;)

Only an hour?  Heck, We've waited in line longer than that at OTC!   ;D

I hope they do not try to distinguish between Vacc'd and Unvacc'd folks.  The risk is on them, not me, and I would be very disheartened to hear [German Accent]Papers, Please.[/German Accent] when attempting to get into a show or restaurant.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: First time and weight
« on: March 05, 2021, 05:27:26 AM »
A lot of it is how you are proportioned. I am 5'8" and 210 (And female) and fairly muscular but most of my excess weight is centered on my stomach. So while I fit on OR, it didn't feel like there was much left on the latch. At same heigh and 280 (before I lost some weight), I did not fit on Time Traveler. They couldn't close it due to my chest. got close but no cigar.

It is not just about weight but how you carry the weight as if you can "fit". Just a heads up... check the seats outside the ride and you'll get the best idea of whether you can ride

I think this weekend as SDC was less about people getting tired of it as it was the temperatures were mid to high 80's all weekend. In October. And a weekend. So everyone decided to go rather than like this coming weekend where it is supposed to to be high 60's and windy

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Re: ROLL CALL: When you going to the park?
« on: September 26, 2020, 05:47:30 AM »
Dollywood's season pass is $139 a year so basically they are wanting a bit over half to extend the pass. I tried to find the season pass price on the SDC website and it isn't showing as an option anywhere I could find. My recollection is it was around $110 for this year (?), so my guess is SDC will want $59 for the extra 6 months

Still seems like they should just allow it to work all year... but they are hurting for money I would imagine with the huge ride cash outlay

Thanks, Duellist.

I was proud of how the park did with cleaning and the like. Although it was a VERY slow day and I can imagine all the cleaning on rides would kill a busy day for ride waits. As it was, my going by myself was a slowdown. I got a whole car in FITH for just me. Same with TNT. I didn't do MRF partially because I knew would be a whole boat for me and didn't want to do that to people...

New Smokehouse was ok... Wasn't great. Saloon show translated much better outdoors than I would have imagined. It was a nice trip for a last one...

KBCraig... I don't think the Covid restrictions in the US are harsh... annoying, yes. Harsh no. And the UK is considerably more strict than Missouri. Which I am fine with... I don't want people I know dying and I've had several of my friends get sick now... None required hospitalization, but all are suffering after effects.

The thing I am hating is the 14 day quarantine once I get there... Because of quarantine there and here (If I went over and came back), I am going to have to rent a house based off an online listing... Because I can't spend 28 days in quarantine to go over and look for myself. Hopefully I choose wisely

I am going for the first time this year (and last time ever) this Friday as my move to the UK is FINALLY happening in the next few weeks and won't have any more time. It is gonna be a bittersweet trip, I believe. I have been coming to SDC with my family since the mid-70's and it was a thing my daughter and I did together when she was little. Unfortunately the shows are limited (which are my favorite part) but I am going to get there early and soak it up. Probably try to ride all the rides (which I almost never do when I go alone) and take it all in before the big move.

Other than the bridge widening, have there been any other major changes? Also, does MRF have a cubby for purses and the like like the other rides do?

Okie... Because they want to prevent fraud is why they check the ID for season pass... without some sort of facial recognition or just a camera alone, I don't see them doing any automated system.

And they take your picture throughout the park on rides or whatever... don't see how one more picture is a big deal.

While I hate the intrusion of it all, I am used to it with airports and customs. Heathrow airport does a complete facial scan when you enter the country. You put your passport on the machine and it takes a picture. It is the same way with US customs... While annoying, it is what it is

It still amazes me that people think this all goes away in November... Does no one else pay attention to what is happening in hundreds of other countries that DON'T have an election in November?

But I digress... They have needed to address the park entrance for years. The large crowds of the last few years have stressed what is already a clusterF@&!.

Things that need done IMO:

Move the cart/stroller rental BEFORE the ticket gates and perhaps have a separate entrance gate just for carts. They could also use this as an overflow entrance gate when crowds are large. Families with strollers or carts are generally going to move much slower than the gen pop and giving a separate entrance for them to "get up to speed" would be nicer I would think

Widen the area considerably

Have someone moving people along. People walk just past the ticket gate and stop. Some to get their party together. Some because they are clueless. And a bunch more because the stroller and cart rental bleed into the already narrow walkway.

Move the Branson Belle ticketing somewhere else.

a nice to have would be a self service ticket scanner with possible facial recognition - you place your ticket on the scanner, smile for the camera and a gate opens and you are in. much faster (in theory) to passing your pass to a person and them having to orient it to the gun and then checking ID (for season pass holders).

Pretty much I think everything could be made better by just moving the stroller and cart rental and the Branson Belle ticketing booth. But the other things would be nice.

I have a feeling it was the insurance cost of the cruise that made them pull out and not the time it takes. I know a lot of things that have been "cancelled" due to rising insurance costs and at the end of the day they could not stomach it - or afford it

Did it look like it was moving incredibly fast to anyone else? yet even with it moving that fast is still a very long ride

28
Yes, it was definitely a "pay" show if I remember correctly. It was an added charge for the evening show

To put this a bit back on topic...

Does anyone else remember the civil war themed drama that was in Echo Hollow when it first opened? It was a dinner type show. Or has my memory completely failed me? I would have been about 8 when Echo Hollow opened so I could be misremembering or convoluting that memory with another similar type show my family saw in the Lakeside or Kimberling city area
