General Silver Dollar City Talk / This Weekend
« on: March 13, 2013, 02:35:42 PM »
What will attendance be at the park?
How crazy are we for taking our kids and having nothing to do with OR (kids aren't tall enough)?

Does anyone know if they changed the refillable mug policy?  I am assuming I can bring the ones we always have and they will be refilled, but what about this year's mug, will it be good for this season only?

I have never been there on opening day, and have all of a sudden gotten nervous that the new coaster is going have thousands of people there.

Any other changes to the park that are going to actually affect the experience this year?

Dollywood Discussion / Planning a DW trip
« on: December 19, 2012, 02:15:24 PM »
Looks like the family vacation for next summer is going to be in Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg.
We are in the very early stages of trip planning and thought it wouldn't hurt to ask how many of you have been and get your opinions.
We will be there in July 2013, planning to rent a cabin. Want to spend some time in the National Park and otherwide enjoy nature a bit.
Can you see Dollywood in a day? We are also probably going to do the waterpark too.

At the time we travel the kids will be 5 and almost 7.

Thanks in advance!

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Syrup
« on: June 20, 2012, 11:07:00 AM »
A point I have been meaning to share...
On our first trip to the city this year, we bought some maple syrup (I belive in the apple butter store). It is pricey for a bottle but thought it would be fun to hear the kids excitement on pancake day at seeing the SDC logo.
Anyway, I got it out this weekend. Tasted it and nothing. It tasted like nothing. So I grabbed the usual maple syrup out and tasted it, delicious. So my taste buds were properly calibrated. So I turn the SDC bottle around looking for a date, and my eyes caught the ingredients. Corn Syrup, caramel coloring, maple flavoring. I know that it is my fault for not reading the ingredients before I bought it and I am mad at myself for that.
So now instead of feeling like a paid a little bit too much for Maple Syrup, I feel like I paid an exorbitant price for old thin karo syrup. Awesome.
I just didn't think that I should question the quality of a product that SDC was willing to put their label on. I didn't think the Home of American Craftsmanship would be selling a product of lesser quality than the box store generic brand.
LESSON LEARNED. No more jar/bottle products from the city.

Random Talk / Prayers and Positive Thoughts
« on: April 12, 2012, 07:54:59 AM »
If you have a minute and could send a prayer this way it would be much appreciated.
My sister has been diagnosed with cancer and is seeing a specialist in Nashville today, two weeks to the day after having her first baby.

Still waiting for a lot of answers.

Thanks,
Sarah

Branson Talk / Special Occasion
« on: March 26, 2012, 08:02:22 AM »
We will be in Branson the last weekend of April and are taking a trip without the kids (I hardly know what to do with myself) and since that Saturday is my birthday (one of them that ends in 0) we want to have a nice dinner.

What are some suggestions for a formal, or at least very nice dinner restaurant?  We try to avoid chain restaurants and are looking for a unique, place.

Thanks!

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Kid Tips and Tricks
« on: March 06, 2012, 10:37:44 AM »
Talking about strollers in another thread made me wonder, what are your tips and tricks for an easy day in SDC?
Also, how old were your kids when you let them explore on their own?

One thing that has worked well for us the last couple years is to pack to "kits", one that stays with the stroller and one that is in the backpack so that if we split up, everyone still has sunscreen, water, sanitizer, etc. instead of waiting until we meet back up.
I also put ice cubes in a ziploc with a wash cloth, then you have a cold rag if it is needed.
I always put a couple towels in the seat of the stroller, it makes messes easier to clean up and makes it nice for after water rides, also if one get dirty or wet, the second one underneath is usually fine.

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Trip Planning
« on: June 27, 2011, 02:35:31 PM »
I am a very dedicated list maker and generally over pack for any activity.

We are headed to Branson on 06/30 and plan to hit SDC 07/01 and 07/02.  My youngest is finally out of diapers (but I fear the distraction of SDC will cause accidents-oh well) and I am trying to consider ways to take as little as possible into the park with us (other than 2 kids a stroller and husband).

What are your SDC essentials?  What tips do other parents have for streamlining your travel with kids?

My kids are 2 and 4, its not like hauling baby gear, but I still seem to send with way too much in the car, hotel and stroller.

Random Talk / Hello Again!
« on: June 08, 2011, 09:52:07 AM »
Feels like forever since I have had time to post.  Miss it around here.

Trying to make time to visit as we ramp up for our 3 day stay in Branson.  We usually drive down and back home in the same day.

I am way behind on too many topics!
Also, why do I not see the pictures in the WITC thread now?

Branson Talk / Eagles Lodge - Homestay Inn 417-336-2666

Just booked rooms for several weekends this year.  Paige was really nice and I am excited to give it a try.

Also, wanted to thank Sanddunerider for setting up the discount for us on sdcfans.  And the 40.00 per night rate is on double and king rooms.  Its a great deal and is allowing us to get a couple extra nights here and there.

For those who havent seen it yet http://www.eagleslodgebranson.com/
And just tell Paige you are with sdcfans.

SDC Memories/ Park History / SDC Doll Shop
« on: August 30, 2010, 04:54:07 PM »
Wasn't sure where to put this.

I am wanting to sell my Silver Dollar City, Days of the Week (doing the daily chores) Porcelain Dolls.  They have been kept in a plastic tub for years and still have the original tags.

These will be going up on Craigslist, but wanted to offer them up here first.  We aren't too worried about how much we make off of these, but we certainly want them to go to a good home who understands how important they are and can enjoy them.

They were gifts from "me" to my great-grandmother as a kid and when she passed away I got them back.  Not sure of the exact years they were sold but I believe that it was the late eighties and early ninties.

IF anyone is interested, please send me a message.  I will try to get some pictures of them up for those who aren't sure what these are.

Thanks,
SNW

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Flooded Mine Score
« on: May 12, 2010, 12:35:00 PM »
I can't get the picture to load but my son (who will turn 2 in July) scored 106900 in the flooded mine on the last trip.
It was the first time he shot by himself so we were pretty excited.

Especially since DHs gun kept resetting! :D

General Silver Dollar City Talk / Bus vs Tram question
« on: April 29, 2010, 07:23:45 AM »
So...we usually park close and walk instead of dealing with the hassle of tram or bus with a large stroller.  But I am thinking that this weekend it is not going to be much of a possibility.
Do the busses have the big storage doors to put strollers in?  Also what is the polite way to board a tram with a 50lb stroller and 2 kids?
