Celebration City and Silver Dollar City Warehouse Auction
« on: May 18, 2022, 03:07:54 PM »
What would you bid on?  I see lots of interesting possibilities.

I'm going to expect some of you to attend this auction in a couple of weeks and come out with some goodies!  There are some great treasures pictured and listed at this link, mostly decor from Celebration City, but some familiar seasonal decorations from SDC, as well - costumes, display vehicles, Route 66 stuff, Coca-Cola signs, even the CC carousel.  There is a $10 admission to the auction, Thursday, June 2 - Saturday, June 4.

As exciting as the event sounds - just the chance to see some of the things again - it's also more than a little sad that they couldn't find a way to use some of these things.  either to reopen CC in a different form or in some of their other venues.

I would love to have that box from Powderkeg, but I'm not going to drive six hours and stand around for three days to get it.  ;D

Maybe it will wind up on ebay.

I had the same thought HB, they absolutely could have used some of that stuff around SDC or some of their other properties but that's not how they think anymore. They don't reuse stuff. They have such a weird corporate structure that they have different departments that have to "buy" from each other. So theming has to be "bought" internally even if it is just sitting in a warehouse for years.

The big thing here though is that clearly they are thinking about doing something with the property if they are clearing all this out and removing the abandoned carousel after all this time. The buildings have to be in rough shape by now. Probably have the city getting onto them or maintenance is starting to eat them even harder. It's been weird that the property has sat this long anyway. Something is brewing, even if it is just them getting ready to sell it off finally.

Although I would LOVE to say one last goodbye to the remaining stuff, I already have plans at a different park that I am hoping will fill the void in me that has existed since this park was taken from me. I was probably the park's biggest fan, but oh well...

Whoever goes, PLEASE take thousands and thousands of pictures for us! Also, if you can, please try to take pictures of the 2 garden areas. The biggest one was the Circus Tree Garden across from the mini golf building. The other was along the stream of water (or creek) just Southwest of the current church building (old Celebration City theater) and under a weeping willow tree. These were my 2 FAVORITE spots from any Amusement/Theme park ever built because of how beautiful they are. Still trying to find something even half as nice as those were.

I plan to be there on Saturday just for the fun of it!  Hubs and I assume every antique dealer in the tri-state area will be there scooping it up.

Actually the Powder Keg box is from the little shop across the "street" from PK, so it's not from the actual ride.

Here's a News-Leader article talking about the auction and featuring some new photos inside Celebration.

Found this sign at a Flea Market off of 165 last week.  The owner of the Flea Market said he wasn't selling but a funny story about it is he did sell it a while back and the guy who purchased it realized he had no way to move it and told the owner he guessed he just donated money to him.  The Flea Market owner said he is going to open a sign museum and will include that sign in it.
