I am being told by a guy I work with that SDC has a new billboard. I am trying to figure out from him where it is.

He is saying that it depicts a roller coaster that is not yet in the park. He has seen it multiple times and is sure it's not Wildfire.

I'll find out where it is and check it out... If it's anything exciting I'll post the pic here.

Hmmm... Well, parks have used rides from other parks in their advertisements. It wouldn't surprise me if they threw a ride from DW into an SDC ad.

I mean, it's not like they're trying to hint at anything at this point. The soonest they could even build a coaster is 2010, and I doubt they will then.

Maybe Tennessee Tornado?  ???

What is the cost of splash battle versus a "mystery mine" type coaster?

^Here's a comparison for DW's rides.

River Battle (3D Branded Attractions Splash Battle):  $5,000,000.00

Mystery Mine (Gerstlauer Eurofighter):  $17,500,000.00

Quite a cost difference.

...and to put it into perspective for you.

PATRIOT at Worlds of Fun cost $14M and PROWLER costs $8M

^Which is exactly why I'm starting to speculate that SDC's MM may be put on hold for a while longer while they go ahead and build a new GCII for their next coaster. I mean, SDC's MM will probably cost much more than DW's just because of the extra earthwork/clearing and the availability/cost of materials. It just doesn't make sense anymore when you could get a more reliable, higher through-put, and more family-oriented ride for less than half the cost.

themeparkguy

Is the GCII another wood coaster?

I'm not sure its that simple- it must outdo what going in at world's of fun if its going to be competitive- to win in the coaster wars you need some one -upmanship.

^Meh, SDC and WOF don't exactly engage in coaster wars. Even though the crowds to both overlap some, if SDC built a coaster similar to Prowler it wouldn't be a big deal, while being a huge plus for the park itself. However, I'm guesstimating that for their next coaster they'll go for a blowout. The fact that they wanted something along the lines of MM says something. Imagine if they went with an Intamin pre-fab like T-Express or El Toro.... http://rcdb.com/ig3938.htm?picture=21

Now that would be a one-up!

That is quite a coaster (your picture)- There is at least one wood coaster of which I am aware with an upside down loop (son of beast anyone)- that would be nice as well!

I had always been a fan of the woodie until riding ghostrider at knotts (longest woodie on west coast)- it set the bar for roughness and generally an unpleseant ride expierence.
