SDC in the rain

We're surprising the kids this weekend with a trip to SDC and stay in a cabin at the Wilderness.  They have no idea and will not know until after we pick them up from school early and are on the road  :)  I am really excited, but bummed about the weather forecast.  It's looking like a 90% chance of rain on Saturday.  Yuck.  I'm a little worried that everything will be shut down at SDC except for the shows and shops which will probably be super crowded.  I'm assuming most of the rides shut down in the rain too. Will they still do the parade if its raining?

yes if it is raining all outside rides will be down..  FITH and FM,  would probably still run, depending on temp. Of course all the inside show would continue per schedule...

Parade? Rain? I doubt it.... ???

Here is the Weather Guidelines For Rides & Attractions

Quote
Precipitation
The following rides will not operate if any form of precipitation is present: Electro Spin, Grand Expo Coaster, Mighty Galleon and PowderKeg.

Check the list for the temps at which rides close (it's between 40° and freezing).

I don't know about the parade if it's raining, sorry.
"Red Flanders, you come back in here and put on your pants!" "Well Sadie, I ain't got no pants no more. The dang Baldknobbers stole 'em!"

I'm thinking it may be better to just scrap the SDC plans.  :(. Bummer.  Time to figure out Plan B.  Bummer.

History Buff

A cabin, a fireplace, and rain:  it doesn't get much better than that...unless the cabin doesn't have wifi.

^^What he said sounds good!  There's always the Showboat and Dixie Stampede for good entertaining.  Grand Country and one other place on 165 has indoor mini golf, and several indoor touristy places (Butterfly House, Ripleys, Titanic...).  Wear pj's early, rent movies, and play board games.  Hopefully, it won't rain and you can go to the City.  Good luck!

Indoor mini golf..  Grand Country on 76 and Family Fun Factory on 165,,

Grand country has some great shows also.

Speaking personally, SDC in the rain can be a lot of fun because the park empties out and it forces you to focus on the shows, crafts, and food. With kids however, it wouldn't be much fun (hence why it empties out). There's some stuff you can do, like the indoor rides, and aforementioned shows and crafts, but they'll be ticked they can't ride the major rides. Usually rain isn't such a big deal for most of the rides unless there's also lightning, but with temps hovering close to 40 degrees anyway it would be painful to ride even if they did somehow stay open.

I don't think they run the parade when it's slick out. Don't quote me on that though, but I seem to remember that.

There was a zero percent chance of rain or snow when we went last Saturday and it sleeted 3 times so don't believe the weatherman.  The outdoors rides will run in the rain unless it's accompanied by lightning. (or maybe if it's coming down real heavy)  We rode WildFire in the rain one time.  Notice I said one time! I wouldn't let the forecast stop me.  It changed over and over before our trip

Thanks all.  I think we're going to just have to wait and see what the weather does that day.  If we get down early enough, maybe we can go Friday night.

Anyone want to help me plan the surprise?  I'm saving any and all packing until Friday morning after they are at school and my husband has to go to work like normal that morning (coming home to pack himself up and load at noon).  They should be clueless.  The plan is to pick my 5th grader up from school at 1, then head across town to pick the first grader up...it's going to be a long drive across town with the older ones zillion questions...lol.  We will hit the road from there.  The first clue will be some Twizzlers and Starburst candies (traditional family road trip munchies).  My second clue as to where we are going is going to be some brand new pjs (we're staying overnight somewhere).  I'm kind of drawing a blank and want one more set of clues.  Any ideas?  Christmas lightbulbs?  I'm hesitant to do anything specific to SDC in case we don't end up going because of the weather.  Hmmm.....

You'll see lights everywhere, so maybe the Christmas bulbs aren't a bad idea.  Or, how about Christmas music to sing along with in the cd player?
