Car cleaning tips

Whens the last time you cleaned your car?
I'm gunna throw myself out here. I have worked in the detail business since 1990, if you have any questions feel free to ask. Think about it, your car is more than likely your 2nd most valuable possession besides your home.

I am constantly helping a friend scrub down his car. He hates the cigarette smoke smell but apparently not enough to quit!

Then I have another friend who calls her backseat 'the dumpster'. If you saw it, you'd know why. $:-\$

My friend treated her car like a closet for many years. Had a perfectly good home. Now that she is married with two kids, it hasnt gotten any better.

OK! I'll take you up on that! How do you clean a dashboard in a Toyota Scion? It's not shiny - almost has a matte finish. Afraid to put any type of oil on it - might stain?

Just to clarify.. A matte finish is like little dimples, correct? Not fabric, right?

You are correct Gilligan, do not put any oil or dressing on that type of finish, it is very hard to spread it evenly. Do you access to a air hose or compressed air? If so, use some soapy water in a spray bottle, ( & a towel so ya dont get it all over ya'r windshield ) & blow out all the little dimples. You should be able to spray it dirrectly on the matte finish so it can get down in all the little cracks. Follow yourself with a towel as your useing the airhose, so it dont get all over everything. Ofcourse, if ya use a airhose, & hold it back a little so ya dont damage any seams that might be together. If no airhose, do the same, but pat it dry with a towel.

I myself dont like any dressing at all on a cars interior. Its too shinny & slick, & attracks dust, dirt, & lint, & it wont go away. A dry interior after its been cleaned, just takes a quick wipe & it looks good again. Thats just my opinion though.
