Funny someone mentioned SDC tour guides. They did that for a few years in the early 80s. You would sign in where the guest relations building is today. A tour guide would walk you around park with a group of 10 to 15 people. The tour guide would point out various sights and shows, rides, and then you were on your own. Many people left the tour while in progress. One of the stops was at the diving bell! I think they may have had a nominal charge for this at first, later I think they were free. The tour guide "boardwalk review" thing ended about '84 or '85.

I have a map from 79' that marks the location where the tours would depart from. I would post a pic, but the brochure is in my locked up office, and I won't be back to work until the 3rd. Junior had it about right, the tours would depart from the area near the Water Clock after signing up.

I dug up out of my files a 1978 brochure and park map that mentions and shows the location of the Boardwalk Review Guided Tours of SDC. When you look at the Flickr photos click on the scans and they will show an enlarged version on your screen. http://www.flickr.com/photos/juniordugan

Yes, that was the time before the multi-million dollar rollercoasters. It costs alot more to run the park today.

If I can get my camera to upload to my computer, I'll post a picture of my Christmas tree  ;)

This is part of the 3ft tree I had in my room. Other than the plastic peppermints and little red ornaments, the only ornaments were SDC!!

Very nice Jr. The 79' brochure also had the same write up about the tours.

We sure do! A true SDCFan helps others in need of directions!

Do you ever get funny looks when you give directions?  I was in the Tin Type shop a couple weeks ago (see picture to left), and a man comes in and asks the worker if she knows how to get to the "pickers".  She acted like she didn't know what he was talking about, so I jumped in.  I asked "Do you mean the homestead pickers?"  He said yes, and I gave him directions.  But I don't know if he believed me, because he gave me a funny look and walked the other way.

If we ever have our SDC Fans buttons or shirts made, maybe we can add "unofficial tour guide" to it.

When I was leading my Show Choir friends to PK, Robby kept saying "Are you sure this is the shortest way?" (We were coming from GE, I took them down the spirally ramp). I said, "We could go that way (I pointed towards Main Street), get stuck in a huge crowd of people, and go down that really big hill, and get there sometime tomorrow." He rolled his eyes lol

So its not just strangers that don't trust us SDCFans (who knows best)!
