Who knows, it may not be a shortcut? Perhaps it is just more practical, and financially sound to simply close the break room off.

Either way I am really excited about the new possible hewing area! I love that the demonstration booth is being built by hand.

Yes, that's a step in the direction we want them to go!  Bringing back a craft from the past days of Silver Dollar City- getting the theme back to what it was.

well they had hewing the last couple of years during the fall festival. Last year it was by the taffy building.

I wonder if that is Mark doing the hewing. He is the one that did some of the log cabins at the camp ground

Does anyone know why they have blocked people from walking into the cemetery in front of FITH?  I am posting a couple of pictures from today showing boards that were put in front of the walkways.  They have been up for a while because I noticed them back on a May 15th visit.

Spoke with one of the guys on FITH who said it was because of the walkway becoming unstable/unsafe to walk. I asked if it was a permanent closure or just until they fix it, and he mentioned that it probably wouldn't be until fall when they get around to fixing it as the park is now open 7 days per week and they don't have the time right now.

Hopefully it will be reopened, that sounds like an easy fix..they just need the time i guess.

Thanks for the info, Baldknobber.  Like a lot of people I worry when they make something inaccessible that they're getting ready to get rid of it.

Don't know if they have continued to do so, but the Fireman's Cemetery used to be part of the area folks would line up in to ride FITH. I always thought that was a unique way to wait in line...standing in a cemetery...but you could read the headstones and have a laugh, too.

that would be different.. earlier this year they just had us lined up and zig zagged between main walkway and the cemetary,.

Not in the line anymore.  for the last few seasons it was the smoking area..  I thought that was fitting as well.

there is still a smoking area in that area.

So, they closed it because the walkway was becoming unstable, and unsafe to walk on? I mean sure, it’s not exactly wheelchair accessible, but is the average human no longer capable of walking on uneven terrain?

Plus, it doesn’t seem like it would be that difficult to repair even with the park open seven days a week. Just continue blocking that area off from guest, pour some concrete (or whatever), and presto!

I wonder if there is an alternative reason? Perhaps people (most likely unwatched children) were causing mischief with the props.

I’m just stirring the kettle a bit. ;)

sanddunerider

ok ozark, you went there first..

My thought is this.  IF the walkway is "weak" now, already this year.  Then it was probably "weak" last year... IF it was in good shape this year it would not be worn out yet this year..

So have ignored another "small" repair?  And moved on?

My photos from last year show barely legible tombstones (the ones that could be read at least...the rest were not even visible...so to reiterate, the epitaths were either barely there, or not there at all!) The only props other than the stones were a few pairs of boots that more than likely have been in the gorund since the 80s. so they were laying sideways, or missing alltogether.

I love the irony of the smoking area, AND the combination of the cemetary/ FITH

Smoking area and cemetery...yeah, pretty funny. If I am not mistaken, the walkways through the cemetery have been the same ones in place since the ride was put in around '73, so they probably do need to be changed. For some reason I dimly remember pea gravel being along the pathway...but I could be wrong. Remember, a weakened concrete walk at Lost River collapsed and caused an injury in the early or mid '90s. None of us would like to ever see anything like that again.
