In the old days, the 70s and 80s, it was common to have a parking lot crew, 4-8 people in the concession, 4-8 ushers to seat people, a huge band of 8-14 members, and the comedian, as well as a light and sound guy, plus, clean up crews. It would be rare to see parking people, or more than 2-4 behind a concession stand, and probably only 1 or 2 ushers, if any at all. The bands are reduced in number. PEOPLE are the biggest expense in a show. Cut the number, reduce costs, increase profit. Most shows don't play to packed houses anymore, either, and that's one reason the staff has been cut back. It pains me to hear Stafford does not have a band, I guess just recorded tracks. Very sad.

Give the musicians a break. We gotta eat too.

Hence, my day time gig as a respectable computer geek.

I say Jim Stafford doesn't have a live band anymore, but I haven't seen his show in about two, or three years so perhaps things have changed. However, his children had a few segments during the show that featured them playing musical instruments. Of course Stafford still has his trusty old guitar so it's not completely on "recorded tracks." :)
